So I'm hearing people talking about turboing a non turbo B6 with a B6T Head turbo and all that other good stuff. I'm about to attempt to buy back my old cars and use them as parts. I sold my '87 X1/9 to fund the rebuild of the engine in one of said cars. 27 miles into the breakin period the oil return line ruptured and ruined the rod and main bearings. If I get the cars back (both are XR2's) I have a friend with a good bottomend from a B6 nonturbo. From what I've read the Turbo has a Compression Ratio of 7.9-1 compared to the Non Turbo 9.2-1. Does this sound doable and would the boost pressure be okay if limited to ~10 with a mx6 intercooler????

Wondering if the driveability would be increased by much with the higher compression off boost. Any clue as to how much of a gain in power would be obtained? Off boost its not very "agile"

Well, I've heard a couple of people have turbo'd the Miata engine

9.4:1 is a lot more fun off-boost than 7.9:1. With good engine management, you should be able to pull 230 whp out of a Miata B6 without any internal changes and a livespan measured in decades. We have a customer with 350,000 miles on his. His clutch pedal has broken in half, but the engine is going strong.

Oh Man.... I may be on to something here! I'll do a clutch while I'm at it. Is the B6(XX)'s crank the same? I installed Total Seal Rings in the engine and would like to scavenge as much as I can. The Head has a fresh reuild on it and the Turbo is a NEW (not reman) VJ-14. I have found a guy that mods the ECU with a chip for very reasonable.... Wonder how hard it would be to setup the hybrid on a MS???

I must have low expectations.... I'm not bothered by my 7.8:1 compression motor off boost.

But setting up the hybrid should be pretty easy. I'd just go ahead and start with an existing B6 + T basemap.

    where can I find a basemap for a b6t?

That sounds really similar to what guys do with the VG30s. That is, run the turbo system off a VG30ET with an intercooler and a VG30E bottom end for the higher compression. Incidentally, that's kind of what we're doing for our 2010 Challenge car.

Turbo Miata maps are pretty close except for the ignition. And you could solve that easily enough with a Miata ignition transplant.
