I have a line on a cheap 1987 crx. It's got some front-end damage. Can someone that has alittle more experience tell me about the ins and outs of this model and give me an idea of what it would take to fix the damage???

wow, I didn't know that you could get valve cover paint in grime-oil...

I have nothing useful to add, if you couldn't tell...

It LOOKS mosty cosmetic, which is a plus.

The downside is that 1st gen CRX parts, fenders in particular are hard to find in good shape these days. (Fenders were plastic, and shattered.)

If you're patient, i would bet well under $500 to fix it all.

    In reply to Raze:

I know, right. That whole engine bay needs an appointment w/ some simple green and a water hose.

    In reply to 93celicaGT2:

Two areas of concern for me:

    1) rear fender area on the passenger side; 2) possible frame damage about the drivers front wheel.

Not having any body work ability, what are the options for the fender replacement?

The part that might be damaged isnt in any of those pics. As far as fenders, its just a treasure hunt to find one that has what you consider an acceptable amount of cracks in it, then removing it and putting it on your car without breaking it any worse. For a while I used to look at them in the junkyard, and I never found one that wasnt pretty broken.

What's the part that could be damaged that I should look for?

Most of the time its pretty obvious, like 4 inch long cracks or pieces missing. Even the best ones I saw were cracked around the mounting holes.

OK. I've been digging in a few places, and it looks like front fenders are like gold. Not having seen a crx in any of the salvage yards I frequent, does anyone know of any cars that could possibly have fenders that could be made to fit? And are there any other areas body-wise, that I need to look out for?

I don't know if it is what you want but discountbodyparts.com lists replacement fibreglass fenders for about $60 each part number 1382-1 and -2. I have never ordered anything and don't know anything about the quality. I do know my 85 had cracked fenders and new fibreglass ones couldn't be much worse.

This is what I needed. I wasn't seeing anything this cheap myself. Thanks.

go on ebay, you can find all sorts of CF, Z3, ect. fenders

And a few "normal" style ones.

well, if you had too.. the "z3" vents could be cut out and glassed over to make a normal fender
