I'm just trying to get a rough estimate for how tomorrow is going to go, we're pulling a 1.6 out of a wrecked miata to swap into another one (at a later date). How long will it take to just get this one out of the car? I have a reasonably thorough tool kit and an impact gun.

    Thanks!

Depends on how many bolts you want to break.

Spray everything down with penetrating lube now if you can.

Mine took me 2 hours or so on my first ever try.

depends on how careful you want to be... things speed up a lot when you don't care how many fluids spill on the ground and when you cut wires and hoses instead of properly removing them...

wrecked car speeds things up. Get the hot wrench out.

I like to undo the subframe and lift the body away from it. Works well and is reasonably quick if you have the means to lift the body.

I did it in 45 minutes working solo and without cutting anything. I wasn't going for speed, I just knew where everything is and what tools to use. Kinda shocked me when I looked at the clock.

That was with a lift, which certainly speeds things up underneath.

I'd allow 4-5 hours, if you haven't done it before and want to be nice. Exhaust can be a pain. Taking the trans with it can make life easier.
