There's an unmarked trooper charger running around my area.... silly dude has nice wheels and racing stripes on it. Windows are DEEP tinted so you'd never see the gumballs.... only reason I know what it is is because I ran into the cop that was driving it outside a gas station, and peeked at it.

noticed how many younguns nowadays rip off the wheel trim on their E36 M3box sedans for that cop look? bloody, bloody silly. and all the stealth shenanigans posted above, what are cops nowadays? just like how in D.C. they wear paramilitary pants and shirts, makes me think of central america.

Around here the marked car are esy to spot:

State Police = OD and black Crown Vics
Sherrifs Dept = Black and White Chargers
City Police = White and Blue Chevy Impalas

But unmarked can be anything. Last week a pursuit ended with the pursued car hitting a pole down the street from me. Among the cars that showed up were a tan Jeep Liberty and a maroon Toyota Camry. Don't know what dept they belonged to since all three were there.

But the best I have seen was watching a purse snatcher get caught downtown. The wife and I were having dinner in a resturant downtown with a second level that has windows overlooking the street.

I saw this guy grab a womans purse and take off down the street. As he got toward the end of the block he stopped because a couple bicycle cops had just come around the corner in front of him.

At which point he was run over and knocked to the ground by the cop on a Segway pursuing him from behind. The bike cops had the cuffs on him before he had a chance to figure out what hit him.

apparently Mass has some similar highway patrol vehicles...pickups with things like aluminum ladders tied to them so they look like contractors or plumbers.

vice/drugs cops here use rentawreck at times, or whatever is in impound. http://www.rentawreck.com/

oh yeah, if its an fwd impala with one of those toilet bowl cleaner discs on the trunk with four burly white guys, it's what we call a jump-out. so easy to spot, all they can catch are idiot drunks, and washed up crack heads.

When I was just starting to drive here in Montana, I had a girl friend in northern Wyoming. At the time, the Montana daytime speed limit was "Reasonable and Prudent", with the assumption that anything in triple digits was no longer either reasonable OR prudent. Wyoming had a 75 daytime, 65 night limit. So one time I'm blasting down to visit, running about 95 as I come by Warren MT, and there's a brown Olds 98 just...sitting...on the other side of the Wyoming State line. He gave me fair warning, though. He put his strobes on while I was still in Montana. I passed him doing just under 80, he pulled me over, read me the Riot Act and told me if I EVER did that again, he'd throw me in jail AND tell my Dad that he had a fool for a son, and recommend taking custody of the license. Being 17, I took him at his word. A few years later my Dad asked if I'd ever driven over 90..."No sir, never did!" and it turned out the patrolman had been an uncle I didn't know, but who had recognized the car. He'd told the old man after all, but I never had to be anyhtiong but scared S...less but that one time. I guess the idea of the threat worked.

I remember being pulled over, ticketed, and chewed out by a cop in an f150... He got me for going almost 20 over while passing someone on a big S-curve.. (divided traffic, 2 lanes each direction, and plenty of visibility, so i dont wanna hear it) anyway, i pulled my maneuver just fine with plenty of safety margin in my Avenger, but when i looked behind me i saw this white f-150 skittering around like he was about to lose it trying to match my maneuver, and i thought to myself "what kinda jackass would drive an f150 like that?". Then, the lights went on and he pulled me over and proceeded to give me a lecture about how dangerous what i did was, and i was all the more convinced that this cop was a complete JACKASS. He came a lot closer to taking someone out than i would have even if id tacked on another 15-20 mph.

I love it when there's an undercover police car painted some inconspicuous color, no Interceptor badge, no black steel wheels, no lights or letters. NOTHING to give it away. Except a silver government license plate...

    D'oh!

I live a good ways out from any major cities so all I get to see are pennsylvania state troopers. Easy to spot because they put reflective tape all over them. Gonna suck now that the crown vic is officially dead and they'll need something new.

There are Hemi Charger police cars with factory aluminum wheels - not just the black steel ones Florida is going to have Hemi Challengers - both black and white and straight colors. Modifications include the Mopar cold air intake and computer programming, also governed for 165 mph I'd take either one use in a few years

There was a huge stink last year around here (central NC) when a drug seizure yielded a Corvette Z06 for the Wake Co. Sherrif's Dept.

    http://www.wral.com/news/local/video/5627632/

Apex, NC uses Chargers, Mustangs, F150s, and Crown Vics. All in both stickered and unmarked variety.

I've talked to a few officers (on good terms, not just busted terms) and most say they preferred the P71s over the Chargers.

Around here the unmarked Chargers are easy to spot, they have heavy tint and stock alloys. Most of the other heavy tinted Chargers have bling bling blam 22" chrome rims.

The months roll on, and I still haven't heard how GM is going to square the circle with (a) new RWD 9C1s the public can't buy, but also with (b) "undercover" versions that can slide past you theoretically unrecognized.

do you think the average citizen will know that Chevy doesn't sell a civilian version of the new Caprice?

    In reply to Carson:

I have also heard a lot of officers also prefer the Crown Vic - mostly due to interior and trunk space. The Charger is hands down on power. The new Coyote 5.0 V8 in a Crown Vic would have been SLICK.

Strangest marked car I have ever seen was a Volvo 850 sedan with CHP all over it in Central California.

Have the P71 all over (marked and unmarked) including the feds in LA (easy to spot) Sheriffs in OC are slowly changing over to the dodge

More interested in the bikes going from BMW to Honda
