92 LT1 six speed. I think I'm a bit crazy with gas at a 1.30 a liter today, but I'm only likely to put a few thousand kilometers a year on it anyway. We'll see.

An LT1 'vette will get surprisingly good mpg's. And, it'll make really cool noises

Why yes, that would be a good bargaining point.

IIRC they are rated at 27 hwy. That's not terrible considering it has 2 or 3 times the power of many cars that deliver that kind of mileage.

I bet it is hard to get both the suprisingly good mpg and the cool noises at the same time.

Not really...just use the throttle when you feel the need...

For comparison, a friend averaged 7 liters per 100 kilometers on the way to our HPDE last week. On the track, he averaged 27 liters per 100 kilometers. His is an LT1 6 speed, too.

That engine and trans combo is incredible. Talk about torque...

    "Instant on" power...

You think you have it bad, we have to buy gas by the GALLON! Much more expensive.

After a few runs, you will be switching to Ramen noodles and turning down the heat in the house. It's a Corvette!

I oved it when I worked inthe racing industry. People would ask why I had a Miata and not a 911/M3/C4/C5/STi?EVO... And then they'd go into how much they were paying for fuel, tires, brake components... One M3 owner spent more in 2 piece rotors per 3-4 events that I would spend to do 3-4 events per year for a couple years!

Now, at the same time, there is a part of me that wants to own any of the above...

Vettes do get excellent MPG now days. My Z06 gets about 22 around town and up to 28 on the highway. Unless you put your foot in it. Then you get about 20. So, i guess it gets 20.

My first tank averaged 8mpg. My first road trip averaged 30.9mpg. I average around 20-25 now, high test (not because its a corvette, because it likes to retard the ignition with regular). The 20 gallon tank is exciting to fill.

The greatest thing to do with the 6 speed is to unplug the relay for the 1-4 skip shift. I Hate that thing. It never made me get better mileage by skipping gears, it made me hammer the throttle to over-ride the economy mode on every 1-2 up shift.

The Lt1 is nice, it will be entertaining to agree with every f-body/caprice cop car owner that they have the same engine. Its not worth arguing. And don't tell fellow vette owners how you circumvented the corvette tax by clever parts purchasing AND did you own work, many "enthusiasts" take pride in the $$ needed to keep one looking pretty.

I got mine for the price of a nice miata, I like miata's, but I like the 'vette more. You'll love it.

I won't be selling the Miatas. This is in addition to, not a substitute.

What's the local price for an LT1 six speed in your neck of the woods?

7-10k depending on condition. I have an l98, the Lt1 topic seems to come up allot however.

multiple cars are funner! Corvettes feel heavy compared to miata's, or most other cars.

It is usually due to the Miata caught in the lower spoiler of the Vette....

    SOLD!

    I pick it up next Saturday -- June 7. There's a slalom on June 8 :)

I've never owned a Chevrolet. Or a domestic car, for that matter. Or a car with more than 5 speeds. Or a car with more than 140 horsepower. In fact, the C4 probably has more power than both of our Miatas and my Protege!

It will look sweet with my new GRM license plate frame.

I'm pretty stoked -- plus I figure owning a Corvette and a Miata mashes together a terrific combination of stereotypes . . .
