I was reading the thread on the geo tracker/ sidekick, became interested and ended up finding this on wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Samurai#Samurai said:The SJ-Series was introduced to the United States (Puerto Rico (SJ-410) and Canada earlier) in 1985 for the 1986 model year. It was priced at just $6200 and 47,000 were sold in its first year. The Samurai had a 8V 1.3 liter, 63 hp (47 kW), 4-cylinder engine and was available as a convertible or a hardtop. The Suzuki Samurai became intensely popular within the serious 4wd community for its extreme off road performance and reliability compared to other 4wds of the time.

The Samurai is also considered a great beginner 4wd due to its simple design and ease of modifications with engine swaps and suspension upgrades, Because every beginner offroader wants to do major suspension modifications and engine swaps.

someone must have got a chuckle out of that one. i certainly did.

LOL, it is a first reaction to want to modify the hell out of the rig right off the bat, even though it's usually unneccessary. It certainly makes things easier though

I did it out of necessity, the engine was cooked.

Jeep guys laugh at my Sammy, but on the trail where they have choice A or B, I'm so small that I have A, B or C. I can also K turn on a trail where a Jeep has to back down a mountain.

    I'm liking it!

A friend of mine has a Sammy with a Datsun 2.2L Diesel with a custom manifold and turbo charged it. He put 35" mudders on it, painted it Army gray with a white star on each "half door" and runs it off veggie oil. It's a veggie powered turbo diesel beast! I'll see if I can get some pics the next time I'm over at his place. Oh, and it's legally registered as a diesel in California! No smog checks for him!

i got a chuckle out of that, i almost bought one new from the dealer in 90 or so, base price was 12k, which the dealer somehow managed to total out to 18k by the time the paperwork was done..i left.. And I thought 12k was too much! fun little truckster though! I used my down payment money to build a 82 olds cutlass and stuck a rocket 350 (sourced from a junkyard and rebuilt in my garage with some "upgrades") in it...13 second car for about the cost of the tax on samurai, according to the dealer voodoo math anyhow
