A bit of both. Dad stayed at home (I conveniently timed buying the car with his conference call, eliminating his bias from this transaction). Mom then willingly signed as my guardian because she doesn't know a lot about cars but liked the color and recent maintenance of this one, and the car is now in my name. I then took it home, spent an hour cleaning it up, and then showed my dad. It made him an odd combination of happy and somewhat misty-eyed for the past. Mission accomplished.
