nice crosstrek.

if you're ever looking to do subaru offroad things look up the mtnroo group and regional chapters. They are all over social media to chat and coordinate meets but also http://www.mtnroo.com

looks like youre no stranger to subarus and no one needs to tell you how ridiculously capable they are in stock form. Ive had a lot of fun with our outback on the trails bone stock.

Yeah I plan to keep it pretty stock.  Might as well have one quiet comfortable car out of three.  Just adding some vinyl and LED lights at the moment:

Pretty happy with the bumper plugs on the front, no more ugly holes.

Congrats. My friend has an orange one and he likes it.  Rode with him a few times when we've gone out to lunch and its a nice ride. If I was looking for a small SUV with a manaul transmission, this would be it.  I don't even know who else makes a small SUV with a manual any more. My first gen RAV4 had one, don't know of many now.

5600 mile, 4 month update...  Took it for it's first oil change today (400ish miles early but I'm off all this week).  No issues, no complaints, they turned it around in about 35 minutes.  I never got the Abarth out of the dealer in under an hour for anything.

My only complaint is they wouldn't deactivate the DRLs.  I hate the half-voltage high beam yellowish light, they said it's a federal mandate that cars after 2000 or so have to have them.  Even though my Abarth is optional through the settings on the dashboard.  Guess I'll unplug the high beams again.

Other than that, no new complaints (still not using the Starlink thing, Android Auto is great).  It's going to be in a parade for the Apollo 11 anniversary in a week or two, 501st magnets on the side, need to download the movie soundtrack to blast through the stereo.

Correct.  They are optional and can be turned off - their shop just doesn't feel like dealing with it.

I got the BMW dealer to turn them off in 2006.  DW's Volvo has a user-selectable option via the nav system.

10k mile update (actually about 10300 or so but who's counting).  Crossed 10k on my way to a 501st Legion troop on Sunday for a trunk-n-treat, fitting I think.

Still no issues, replaced the $5 Amazon cellphone cord from SWMBO with a decent Anker and no more dropping Android Auto.  I just canceled satellite radio last night & was made wise to the ways of Spotify.  So much better, no idiot DJs that think they're comedians, no more talk, no more talking OVER the beginning of songs.  SWMBO also reminded me she added me to her Google Play music thing & I can download music to my phone ahead of time to play if I want.

I still look forward to driving this thing.  I'm curious how the OEM all-season tires will fare this winter.  Luckily Tirerack has free shipping and I can have something delivered to my work in a day.

Thanks for posting that! Now I have to see if ours is affected.

I can’t say I would be upset with a new engine.

Has there ever been a Subaru model that has not had a recall that involved engin replacement?

The second one with the PCV valve only affects 2018, I have a 2019.  The first one might, I'll check.  If it does, it's an ECU reflash.  Wouldn't be the first car I've had that ended up with something involving the ECU getting updated.

(And the whole "replacing engine" thing is from possible PCV valve debris.)

The salesman basically said that when I bought my WRX. "Just use Google."

That said, I use Starlink (I think) to make calls, operate the radio, etc. when I don't have my phone plugged into the car. I can tune to a radio frequency and place calls using my voice. Is it supposed to do much more than that? Does yours have a navigation system or something?

my 1990 Justy and my 1981 DL wagon were great. I was dumb and kept buying them including 2016 WRX limited - Kept having problems. My worst was 87 Loyale GL10 sedan and 01 Outback. But I have low IQ and never learn. Owned 11 mazda and 5 Subarus. I am done with low quality junk from 2nd and 3rd tier manufacturers.

since 2016, I have freed myself..... though I was second high bidder on a SVX recently with its known trans and wheel bearing issues and often search for 2.5RS coupe. But I am recovering and the daily struggle are real, but I pledge to the god of Tier 1, and it keeps my blood pressure lower

next 2100 miles, replaced turbo.

next 1500 miles, serious oil burning

I only didn't get the STi because of ringland issues. Was looking forward to new FA motor.

Good God, man. That is just terrifying... like, mind-boggling, Darfur-level E36 M3. Just unbelievably bad. If you really posted there for 14 years, you deserve a marble cenotaph at Arlington National Cemetery and a Lifetime movie.

NASIOC is like what the Library of Congress would be if it were devoted to underage scat porn. Posting on NASIOC is like being rectally executed via pellet gun for a crime of which you're not only innocent, but actually the victim.  Reading NASIOC is like thumbing through a coffee table book about your own childhood... by Robert Mapplethorpe.

I asked a simple technical question on NASIOC once. I awoke in a drainage ditch in Bayonne, NJ the next morning with "if you wanted to go fast you should have bought a WRX" tattooed on my back in gothic letters and a Teddy Ruxpin shoved up my ass.

NASIOC is to Subarus what Eva Braun was to Volkswagens... or something. I'm pretty sure that's way too kind.

NASIOC is amateur hour compared to Viper Alley.

I don't blame you for NASIOC. No one person could possibly be at fault for that.

I'll have to take a look a this Viper Alley place. You'd think people fortunate enough to own a Viper would be nice to each other... Naaaah!

I asked a simple question on NASIOC when I bought my first Subaru, affectionately called Subarust.  2001 2.5RS rallycross car.  I asked something about making the fake hood vents functional.  Saw 3-4 replies and never went back.

There's a Dayton Subaru Facebook group I joined for about a month, mostly douchebags, homophobic jokes, "what are we drinking tonight?" posts, and the occasional actual useful tidbit.  I left it.  There's a Columbus group that seems to actually be populated by mostly humans I stuck with but rarely read.

I've had Subarus since 2005 (my 04 WRX, then my BRZ, and thirdly my trusty/rusty/art-project 2000 2.5RS coupe... still have all 3).

between the big aforementioned forum and my local Subaru forums, they just seem to attract the most miserable and unpleasant people, if it weren't for the fact that the cars have been a practical compromise of features, performance and reliability (plus now they are really all I am familiar with), I probably would have gone elsewhere.  The cars have been fine, but the community has almost killed it for me on many occasions. :S

This is really the only forum that I still read regularly and occasionally post on.

In reply to Jerry :

CentralOhioSubarus used to be a fairly active forum (as well as the de facto Ohio rallycross forum) but I left due to having to deal with someone who was one of those service managers who was extremely unaware of his own incompetence, the kind who double down on their ill-preconceived notions in the face of facts from the source, and someone else who started out with the whole "we did the research and decided not to vaccinate our baby because..." derp and that was the exact moment I stopped giving a crap.

It's been so long since I was on Nasioc that I didn't realize it'd gone downhill.  There was a wealth of info back then, like 2004-2006ish

When I had my trusty ol' Loyale, I always preferred Ultimate Subaru Message Board. The forum format was janky and frequently crashed and members would have to fundraise to keep it running, but everyone on there was pretty knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with. They helped me sort out the weirdo EA82 ignition circuit woes that would make them intermittently not crank.
