    money is a good start...

I think 1.5 million will buy you something called a Veyron. 2 million will even get you 1000 HP in a convertible.

Big Block (Caddy, Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, or Buick) + Two giant turbos + E85.

Buy an '03 Cobra and buy a twincharger kit. You'll proably want to upgrade the halfshafts in the rear end if you do this

    OR

Buy a Mk IV Supra and boost the holy crap out of it.

    OR

Get your hands on a Ford GT (supercar) motor and swap the supercharger for twin turbos, install in anything that a 5.4L mod motor will fit in.

I like this idea best. Find one from a helicopter or prop plane and enjoy. Plus you can burn what ever you like.

This is probably the most sensible way of getting 1000 hp:

Search for chris chows buick regal, I think it was making 1800 hp (or something rediculous like that) at the flywheel and put down over 1000hp to the wheels on a dyno with very little traction. Its a twin turbo v8 loosely based on a small block chevy. With that kind of power you have to spend alot of money on the transmission too, a normal automatic will explode and probably kill you. Of course, before you worry about that you have to come up with the $75k or so to build it.

Insert pair of 500hp engines of your choice and go. Traction may be an issue.

You saw the board at Rollins. It's not that hard if you're willing to spend. IIRC, the top HP on their board right now is 1600 or 1800 hp. That's with NOS of course.

And only somewhat related, I had to post this picture. I found it when googling twin turbo V8 set ups. Nice!

I was at the Car Craft Nationals car show a couple weekends ago, and they had a chassis dyno shootout going on. Some guy was there with a 280Z, equipped with a supercharged small block Chevy engine with a big dose of nitrous. It made 1016hp at the rear wheels. It probably wouldn't be a practical car for daily commuting, but it was streetable.

My thought is the cheapest you'd be able to do it is a
big block v8 + Fuel Injection + twin turbo + monster tranny.

You might even be able to do it with a smallblock. I heard of a street-driven C4 with some 1200 HP, and even saw a video of it, but don't remember anything in the way of specs on it. The passenger couldn't stop giggling... (As an aside, they also had a 600HP AWD Deuce coupe or replica. Sweetness.)

I remember that too, that's what made me think of the twin turbo big V8 setup. That engine was megasquirted IIRC.
