A true Grassroots racers needs support!!!

The following is quoted from the dirty drifters forum....

There is a local talent that's been doing really well without a proper car, funding or any real support. Three years he's placed highly in the west coast championships this year he came in second and has qualified for the MaxAttack! east/west coast shootout Lake Superior Performance Rally in Houghton Michigan on October 15-16th. Everything has started to come together: we've arranged towing and some help for the car but still need to raise a large chunk for entry fee, food, hotel ,fuel, beer, etc. Cody has become somewhat of a sensation being compared corner for corner to names such as Travis Pastrana even though Cody drives an '89 Honda CRX and Travis drives $500,000 Subaru STi. The point is:

For far too long the lush green forests and high crowned gravel roads of Cascadia have selfishly contained within its borders a body of the purest rally talent to be found in all the land, unseen to those in the east. If one were to random upon this soft-spoken man on the street they would have no idea of his giant killer status in the rally world. On stage, it’s a whole different story. It takes but one blurry vision of the Voodoo Rally CRX to see that Mr. Cody Crane possess something very special.

The Dirty Drifters have seen this vision and are coming together in efforts to give the rest of the country a big dose of it too. Cody is well on his way to MaxAttack! at LSPR, he has a ride, he has a crew, and the car is being rebuilt better and stronger than ever, but he still needs the support of the rally community to make it a reality. So, yes this is a “help get Cody to LSPR” thread but the great news is that we are not just looking for a donation. The Dirty Drifters have seen to it that if you choose to support Cody and his rally addiction that you will look super fly doing it.

Not to be an ass, but a true grassroots racer would figure out how to get it done himself. Reference: Wheels777, AKA Andy Nelson.

To donate to charity is one thing, but racing is a purely frivolous pastime. We all love it, but my charity dollar is going to feed a starving kid, not put some wannabe racer in a car that I can't even afford. It's like me donating for some kid to go to the Bunny Ranch...

I also have a few ideas for reducing budgetary requirements: -tent -water instead of beer -ramen

Sorry dude, you caught me at a bad time- working ALL day Sat, and Sun for the past 3 weeks and likely the next 10. Little sympathy at this point.

Kinda with E36 M3 on this one.

In east TN I have seen tons of driving talent. Most go nowhere, because they don't want to do what it takes to be successful at anything, much less racing.

Takes more than talent to become something. If he truly wants it he will go and find a way.

Those who want it bad enough don't need handouts.

I want to go to the Bunny Ranch. would we have ever heard of Ayrton Senna if it wasn't for his pops owning the largest grocery store chain in Brazil?

    In reply to nutherjrfan:

    Watching his old films, yes.

His actions on and off the track are more than just talent. It is drive.

I can relate to the other posters:

I struggle to finance my own limited motorsports effort. I'm sometimes indignant that my family situation and career don't afford me the time and income to do everything that I want. There's nobody lined up to give ME a sponsorship...blah blah blah.

    But...

After watching those videos, it's clear that Cody has talent and drive. I could have sacrificed some of the thing I have and got my ass out on the rally course if I had the drive to do so and prioritized my life accordingly.

I think it is important to make it known who you are and what your goals are.

I will be surprised if Cody doesn't secure some sponsorship. Good luck guys!

Tyler- Absolutely. I think if they concentrated more on the sponsorship angle (read: business case) then they might get a more positive reaction. Selling t-shirts is better than soliciting handouts- so I don't want to be too harsh on that angle, but the marketing seems pretty charity-oriented.

If they could crowdsource the marketing of Cody, then I think he might make it- it would be an interesting first in the motorsports world too.
