Also, I really thought the GRM holy trinity was Miata, e30, Astro.

You have a problem with that P71 I've owned about 15 and never got less than 19mpg which was very badly out of tune. That said install a Mustang T5 in the Vic and never be concerned with a fun DD again

Mk2 gtis (at least most of them) run like crap, and the shifter linkage is so bad you cant even figure out what gear its in. They honestly kinda suck unless you put alot of work into them.

Are you driving in anger the whole time? The worst we ever got when we had our Vic was 13 with a boat, or 15 in -35* weather.
Somethings gotta be broken. -

If you can find a 4x4 4cylinder 5speed from the mid 90's... Should be good for low 20's..

But that mileage includes all the trips back and forth to the transmission shop on the back of the wrecker, it's not like YOU are paying for THAT gas, right?

Kid, you've got to look into this one.
'88 Ford Ranger 4wd Ex-cab with Mercedes Diesel http://sandusky.craigslist.org/cto/1045439448.html
I saw it on line and thought of you.
