I recently just got my own policy and i'm paying way too much after shopping around (25 male with a clean record, 09 Yaris. Almost $1800 a year). Who does everybody here use for insurance so I can get an idea of who to maybe shop around for a better rate..?

I won't say, at this point, (I'm afraid "they" are listening in, and will cancel me.....sorry, bad joke).

Doesn't anyone find it odd, that all the "biggies" in the car insurance biz claim they can save you $500 a year when you switch? If EVERY company can save you the same amount of money, by switching from ANY of their competitors....oh, wait, my headache is returning.

State Farm, 35, clean record. I insure a house and three cars with them, only one that is full coverage is my wifes minivan, My Caravan and Miata are only liability. $130 a month for all......

Also too in WI our liability coverage was just doubled due to a new law so our rates went up a little this past month.

What's your deductable? If it's $250 or $500 see what the rates would be if it was a $1000. $1800 seems awful high, buts it's been awhile since I was 25....

Had Progressive for a while, and they were nothing but a series of nightmares. My wife totaled her car running over a chunk of concrete broken loose from the median barrier by an errant semi (underbody damage), and

Progressive paid out, but a supervisor in the call center told us that even though they couldn't prove it, because there were no witnesses, they suspected us of insurance fraud.

They then claimed we had missed a payment 4 months earlier, and dropped us retroactive to the beginning of the month. The Customer service rep said, in these words, "You've been nothing but problems for us." In fact, they even sent us a bill for the supposed "missed payment."

When we shopped around after this, some companies (Nationwide, Farmers) wouldn't even give a quote when we explained the situation, because regardless of the circumstances and legality, a carrier had dropped us. We called State Farm, explained the situation, the agent told us "No problem- they pull crap like that all the time."- we've happily been with them since.

I don't know that we're getting the best rate out there, but the rate is competitive, and decent customer service is worth a few bucks.

What happens when you do the progressive.com site, or call Geico? I have Erie for everything, but I also have a 17 year old with full coverage..... From what I remember just his is $3500 a year or so.

state farm. only vehicle i know of off hand is my wife's 02 cavalier, full coverage with 3 speeding tickets on record, 500 deductible, $600/yr. she was paying $1000 with american family and the discount for having our house with them. at the end of the year our house is switching to state farm and her car will be $50 less per half.

my stuff is all cheap, full coverage on everything with fleet discount because we have no less than 12 vehicles insured at all times.

    State Farm.

But I'm still looking for a specialty carrier to get the E30 insured for a stated value policy that doesn't have mileage or roll bar restrictions.

I have had esurance for about 7 or 8 years and I like them. Don't let the cartoon commercials turn you off. I only made one claim for a miata roof and dashboard damage from theft. Everything was replaced with no problems. I like them because everything is online - set it and forget it.

State farm. 25 single male, '98 neon with FULL coverage and a $500 deductable, $800/year. While my policy is on my own I still get multi-line discount for my parents policies (home, auto, ect.) as I still live with them.

I have a "no accident" discount, I wonder what kind of time line they use, as my last incident was last april. There is also my defensive-driving coarse that "removed" the points from said incident.

Over all i have had my liscence for 7 1/2 years with 2 speeding tickets, the most recent was almost 4 years ago. 3 not-at-fault incidents and one at-fault.

Allstate - the guy used to be in Sears under the escalator near the candy/nut department back in the late 1970's.

He retired and sold it to some agent 50+ miles from my house that I have never met. I mentioned that once and got an attitude from her.

I might look at State Farm next.

Fleet discount? What does it take with State Farm to be considered a fleet?

I'm an auto adjuster for Travelers, but don't have them.

I have Erie on my cars. 50/100/100 liability cvg, comp with $500 ded on both cars, Coll w/$1000 ded on the Disco, costs about $700 a year, 30 YO single male, clean record. This is for a 99 Land Rover Disco and 88 325is.

The one thing I'd like to stress to everyone here is to have enough liability insurance. You NEED at least 50/100 for bodily injury liability and at least $50k for property damage, preferably $100k.

I've seen numerous people with state minimum coverage (only $5k here in PA, was $10k when I lived in CT) get into serious personal financial trouble when their policy limit gets maxed out. It doesn't take much to total a modern car, and it adds up quickly.

I go through a broker. That way, if there's a claim, there's someone on my side. It also means that if I want a cheaper rate, I call up and say "I want a cheaper rate". And one happens.

I forget what company I'm with now. Apparently I'm very low risk (!) so I'm in a pretty favorable pool. It's a lot cheaper than the State Farm rates my wife was paying before we switched her over. Hagerty takes care of the classics.

Sonic is right. Anyone can get a cheap rate quote, but it may not actually be good coverage. And you guys comparing what you pay on here is really meaningless, since there are so many variables (car, history, where you live, married or not, driving record, yada yada yada).

I work for the lizard but don't have them because I've been with State Farm and clean for too long, they can't match it.

Self serving part: if anyone wants to call the lizard for a rate quote (it really does take about 15 minutes...I did it myself) I have a promo code you can use. Just PM me for it. Makes me look like a hero if I get referrals even if you don't buy.

i have had progressive for the past 5.5 yrs but never had an accident so i cannot make an experienced judgement on their coverage.

My fiance however, has Allstate and she spun her imprezza into a ditch last year, and I was impressed with the service of the coverage, which included a rental car while hers was being fixed.

I'm probably paying more than I need to, but my USAA policy has been absolutely bulletproof with impeccable customer service. I pay $1200/year for my MG Midget, '02 WRX wagon, and motorcycle (which is $500 of the policy).

If you can get it, I highly recommend it.

I am not going to quote prices to you, because every person and car makes it tough to compare, but Allstate has been quite good to us as far as customer relations go - replaced two windshields, and covered the cost of a totaled car without too much trouble. The windshield-intstaller guy spoke volumes about them and state farm (whom I've had and liked) while he did the job (I like to watch).

My dad was State Farm agent and although I handled Farm Bureau cases for yrs, I cant see myself switching from SF. The only problem I ever get is when I insure more than 4 cars; evidently their computer system is tuned to believe that 2 driver family cannot own more than 4 cars and so I start getting inquiries about identifying the authorized drivers. It would take some research to determine my premiums because certain cars are paid from my firm account and others are paid by my wife on a monthly account. In my experience it is the claims management that really makes the difference in your carrier.

Erie Insurance here for cars, houses, boats, etc and Progressive for the motorcycle. Great service, and I have never been able to beat the price.

I just checked - I'm with EMC. Never seen a TV ad for them, might have something to do with the rates
