Pretty cool viewpoint. Good example to others about looking ahead into the corners. Should show this to my DE students.

That's pretty awesome. I'd like to see more race footage like this maybe.

I was impressed by how fast the shifts were. How do they do that?

Electric solenoids? Downshift is preselected for optimum launch from apex at throttle application. Sir Jackie had to row his own at Monaco, Fangio was the master IMHO.

Those engines run stupid high rpms. How do they control valves at those speeds?

  • Oct. 22, 2011 11:20 a.m. mistanfo SuperDork

I believe the valves are pneumatically actuated.

Did Sir Jackie have to deal with 6G of braking force and being able to go from a dead stop to 200 mph in under 15 seconds? Didn't think so The guys are still insanely good drivers, even if they don't have a third pedal. Plus there's no room for one up there!

Formula 1 cars are silly, let's just go with that. And that was a sweet video. And soundtrack.

I know what my virtual laps are of that course, and the F1 car makes it seem like an autocross by comparison. Very fast.
