One guy in my neighborhood insists on driving 10mph below the posted speed on all of the roads leading away from our neighborhood. on a 30mph country road that most people do 50mph on, it feels like torture. And yes, when the road dips to 25 in a corner, he drops to 15. When the road finally opens to two lanes and 40mph, he keeps to the left lane and 25mph.

I think I saw something in the Constitution or Geneva Convention or NAFTA that says I can legally kill him. True?

Stop drinking so much coffee. Sorry, pinch, as long as there is no min-speed, he's well within his rights.

It's very legal for people to be annoying....

Thanks goodness too, I'd have been put to death long ago for how I drive in Atlanta traffic. Lets just say that some days I am judge, jury and executioner.

How much time does following him add to your commute? A couple minutes maybe?

I dont like driving really fast when when my car is cold, and it doesnt really run as well until it warms up anyway. I drive whatever the posted speedlimit is, but I still get passed and cut off by angry soccer moms everyday. lol

    I am with Pinchy-poo here.

I thought we passed a law that stated if you were taking up too much time that you could be shot on sight. Like that time I went pheasant hunting and this guy was taking too long on his round up. Next thing you know some Rambo looking dude shows up with a copy of the Constitution and starts firing away:

He was screaming something about Dan Quail or something.

I did that one time in a lowered 944 Turbo on the interstate. Man was I lucky I didn't break the car! A Taurus was in the fast lane beside an 18 wheeler and had been for several miles. I finally went insane and hit the median. When I got to my parents house I got out and noticed grass and weeds stuck to the front bumper!

I think Texas passed a law and it may be on the books of other states that you can only use the left lane to pass. My rule is that if some one is doing 15 under the posted limit I pass them even if it is a no passing zone (use caution and judgment of course) If you are going that slow under the limit I say that they are really pulling over to let me by. I even used that on the cops once and they let me go no hassle no issues. I told them that the person was doing 20-23 in a 40 so I assumed that they wanted me to go around. Speaking of this is there any law about when you can pass a slow driver? Ie how much under the posted limit do they have to be to make the pass legal? I run in to this all the time with older drivers especially at night. I use to get really P.O'ed but as I have gotten older I realise that they are just driving with in there limits and some day I am sure I will be there.

The only thing that is scary is when you pas one of these rolling road blocks and they get mad and then tailgate you. The answer is to let them pass again and call the cops and report them as potential Road Rage.

Speaking of road rage I read some where that the cops were clamping down on people driving slow in the fast lane and holding up traffic etc under the theory that they were causing road rage in other drivers. In essence they are the instigators. I am all for this. My view is driving is a privilege you don't have the rite to impede others.

I think we should all be given paint ball guns to shoot slow drivers . It sure would make me feel better and make sitting in traffic more fun.

In the area where I live (northern california) depending on the time of day, (usually afternoon/evening) the left lane usually moves the slowest of any of the lanes on the freeway. The other annoying thing around here is that there are many places where the posted liimit is 35 mph, and you have to drove 50-60mph to keep from blocking traffic.

Dennis Miller used to say that we should all have dart guns that shoot magnetic flags that say "idiot" on them. All a cop would have to do would be to pull people over who have a bunch of flags on their cars.

In Missouri, you may only use the left lane to pass by law, but it is rarely enforced. Some new statutes are coming on the books soon that will actually add a bit to this and other such laws to give the po-po's and prosecutors more incentive to address annoying behavior as opposed to criminal behavior.

Driving too slow is interesting. Under the right circumstances, it could be careless & imprudent driving (reckless driving), but in your case, it sounds annoying. I would be sure to leave earlier to avoid that person. People like that are bad to follow. If they react to something like they drive (slow) you could be part of the collateral damage. Of course, the dude could be an old alkey, too.

I have that problem here. One of the major roads is only a two land road with NO PASSING for a good five miles. Often times I get stuch behind somebody doing 10 under the limit.

Once I got caught behind a neighbor of mine who was doing that.. so it added another 3 miles to my agony of going far too slow.

I would like to know about what speed you can legally pass no matter what.

I am not one for making aggressive moves when driving, but I did once pass on the double yellow. I got caught behind a guy who would speed up considerably when the passing areas came up.. and then once the centre line went solid, he would slow back down to 10 under. A couple of miles of this and I finally cracked and passed him at far too high a speed. No finger from me, I let the crackle of my Fiat's exhaust as I shifted at Redline let my displeasure be kknown.

I recently decided to give up motorcycles indefintely, (new kid, not a wreck) but one of the things I miss most about my bike was how easy it was to dispatch super-slow drivers on back roads. Twist of the wrist and adios!

I was stuck in rush hour traffic a couple weeks ago behind two cars going 10-15 under on a 55mph highway. Cars were passing at every chance, yellow line and all. I am not one to pull a 2 car pass even if I have a clear path and 9lbs of boost so get the job done. I got a peek at the drivers when I came up on a light and hopped in the left turn lane, one was just and old man doing his old man thing, the other was a young mother and her little one strapped in a car seat in the back. I don't think she had any idea how much danger she put her child in by driving the way she was. I don't care if it's her right to drive that speed or not, it would have been safer to do 20 over and not have a 3/4 ton truck pass you with oncoming traffic bearing down. You can't deny responsibility for a situation you create, even if you are within the letter of the law.

Leave for work five minutes earlier or later.

I don't think you can actually kill someone, but a 3/4 ton truck with a big wooden bumper could get him up to speed in a hurry.

You never know, I always drive slower after a track day. I've sated my aggresive impulses, and after 110 MPH sweepers, whether I drive 25 or 35 on city streets just doesn't matter to me. Dude may be a nationally ranked racer!

That's where I'm at now. I get frustrated, but then I think about how (a) they're probably doing the best they can, and (b) how dangerous would they be at 10mph over the speed limit?

True story: My 90-year-old grandmother was a speed demon, always driving well over the posted speed limits. One day, my mother was in the passenger seat and couldn't take 55 in a 35 any more. She said, "that sign back there said the speed limit is 35." My grandmother's response? "Oh, that's an old sign."

Oklahoma recently passed a law saying you could be ticketed if you drive in the left lane and are doing under the speed limit. I don't know if it's ever enforced.

With gas prices being what they are now, I've started driving like an old man. I don't get much over 60, unless the speed limit is lower, then I drive the speed limit. HOWEVER, I'm always conscious of the fact that everyone else is wanting to drive faster (most in SUV's and pickups!) so I stay in the right lane and try not to block traffic. If I need to pass someone (yes, there are people that are even slower than me) I get around them as fast as possible, then shoot back into the right lane.

I've noticed a lot more people driving like this since gas hit $3+

I don't get it. You slow down to save, what? 5 percent on your fuel bills? Nothing personal, but skip the Starbucks and you'll save more!

Pennsylvania. And since you're actually allowed to pass on approximately 3% of Pennsylvania's 2-lane blacktop, that means you spend about 97% of your time frustrated.

In Maryland, by law, if you're holding more than 5 vehicles up behind you, you're supposed to pull over and let them pass. However, it is never enforced. And your typical pawpaw in the rusty Chevy pickup doesn't even look in the mirror anyway, and when he does, he figures you all want to go the same speed as he is.

I've thought for years that paintball guns should be installed in cars. Any car with too much paint on it would be an instant red flag for anyone else in the vicinity. Yes, it would way too much fun. also.
