Current car(neon R/T) status is severe rust(most rear lift points just crush when used) and worsening oil consumption(was 1qt/700miles, now it's 2qt/week). Simple point is it is past the point of feasible repair.

And in my search I find this, e30 325

How bad can a 25y.o. BMW be, as a rust belt DD?

I would want to look under that carpet first. Price seems high for the condition.

Plus one. Non-rusty cars are awesome.

I've been using an e30 (a 325ix) as a winter beater in Minnesota for about ten years now. It was rusty when I bought it, and while the rust has gotten worse over the years considering how infrequently it gets washed I'm surprised it's not worse than it is.

They'll rust out in the bottom seam of the doors, the floorpan around the jacking points (particularly on the driver's side), at the bottom edge of the front fenders where they bolt to the unibody, in the rear edge of the trunk lid and around the rear license plate lights. Mine also has rust in the sunroof, which from what I've seen isn't all that unusual either. If you're not too concerned about cosmetics none of those things are going to leave you stranded on the side of the road.

Where I'm currently living (northern Fl.) a Miata with 90K miles and a price of $5k is WAAAY overpriced. I guess living in Pa. or N.Y. these cars are harder to come by?

As far as the BMW? Not sure where in N.Y. Ovid is, but the big wheels and spending most of it's life (I'm assuming here) in N.Y. would count against it. Big, tasteless wheels, to me anyway, shout "I was owned by a kid who was more interested in bling that necessary upkeep". At least it has low miles for the year.

The ETA e30 is a good little car. It's much like a diesel, good torque down low but doesn't rev high.

Craig's list for anywhere south of Atlanta. I'm a bit farther, Ft. Lauderdale, but we see almost zero rusty cars. And those usually have New York plates.
