You definitely get the feeling he's a reader from this list:

It's funny. I know a guy who has a Viper GTS stuck in a garage with almost no mile. Seems like a lot of people had the same idea.

I agree with the Hummer just in the fact that no one will save them in good condition and they are infamous in there own way.

In the last paragraph he calls the '79 Ford Fiesta a collectable. I could not agree more!

Have we yet exposed his GRM screen name?

The man has a way with words "They’re not jellybean cars."

He's probably not far from right either.

I love Leno. Likes rare or oddball restored cars, yet has a DIY hotrodder bent. That's cool.

I like this line a lot. "Almost anything built before today’s government safety regulations could be collectible. In the future, cars lacking these systems will appear so odd to people."

Opinions like these are why I never wanna sell my DSM or SE-R. The average joe, and more importantly the average jane thinks these cars are E36 M3. But I'm sure my future grandkid's friends will be jealous.

On a semi-related note, I just saw an episode of Home Improvement, and Jay was in it as a mechanic for a really rich guy. I think that it was actually in Jay's garage.

I thought it was an interesting read and have tons of respect for Jay, BUT....

can you think of ANY car from the '60s that is NOT a collectible today? I believe the same goes for today's cars in the future.

There was a list of future collectibles in the last issue of classic.

"But I’ve never lost money on cars.

The reason is simple: I’ve always bought cars I really want to own. If you buy a car that you like, and it loses its value, at least you still like it"

EXACTLY! Seems everyone i talk to about cars always says "yea, but that car wont have any resale value in a couple years...blah blah" i dont care. i buy my cars because i like them, not because they have a high resale value. When i work on my truck people ask why i put so much money into an old f150, why i wash it every week, why this, why that, i cant sell it for what im putting into it. Then when i tell them im not selling it they just stare at me, amazed that id rather keep a 17y/o truck instead of lease a new vehicle every other year. Any car can be a 'collectors' car, it all depends on how it emotionaly affects someone.

Sorry Jay, I gotta throw the flag on that one.

Leno really is the real deal, isn't he? That bit about talking with the wife over buying the McLaren sounds like the same conversations we have. Except for the car being a McLaren, of course...

lots of cars from the 60's are collectible to one person or another, but most aren't "profitable" collectibles. that is, if you bought one, restored or even resto-modded it, you couldn't sell it for what you put into fixing it up. that, to me, is not really collectible, just nostalgic to some people.
