Just wondering if anyone has dealt with sunrise jdm motors in Canada. Wondering about their service when importing an engine into the US,

Ive dealt with Nagasaki JDM Motors. Shipping from Richmand BC to Saint Louis MO was $300.00. Nothing to complain about them. Never dealt with Sunrise.

Talk to Leslie about JDM motors. She had an experience with them (among others, I have heard) that was Teh Suck!

    You made me LOL.

    Check Nagasaki. They don't suck.

I believe it was www.jdmtigerjapanese.com Tiger motors in Toronto that totally RIPPED OFF Leslie.

Yep! Shady bastages. But... they offered me $50 off my next purchase. Yeah... not gonna happen. Don't deal with tigerjapanese. Although a good friend of mine bought his RX7 motor from them with no issues. He says that it's probably wise to buy a JDM engine with the assumption that you're going to have to rebuild it.

Good news is... mine turned out to be a broken cam of all things. Not much damage at all, and since I found that killer deal on an entire disassembled KLZE... I had more than enough parts.

I've heard good things about Eric JDM in Chicago as well.

That's ericjapan1@aol.com. Never actually bought anything from the guy, but got a quote on a Miata engine one time. I've heard verbal endorsements of Eric from other Chicagoans.

    ^Ah that was it...

Lots of the mx6/probe guys get their KLZEs from him. They show up, handpick their motor, and they have it compression tested right then and there.

We have Adrenaline Motorsports. Wouldn't touch them for anything I can find elsewhere.

When asking for RB20 parts, I get "We don't carry RB20 because they just don't sell well." Kind of disheartening.

After dealing with a lot of people who have bought JDM motors - if the motor is available as a US market part, don't bother going JDM. They're just old motors that have taken a long boat ride. If it's some super-exotic JDM-only bit, that's different.

I agree with what Keith said. On the flip side though, I hear that the JDM motors are generally lower mileage.

I've heard a few local Miata / Spec Miata peeps talking about this place in Cali: http://www.attarco.com/

I believe they charge about $500 for a Miata motor.

Nagasaki is a fun site. They want less than 4k for a GTR halfcut? Sweet.

They also seem to have semi-reasonable prices on the Honda B-series stuff. That market got way overblown even before F&F. Hell, there are still some people trying to get nearly 4 grand for a freaking B18C motor/trans (integra gsr). I love the motor, but it's just a 1.8 NA with significantly less than 200hp. Why do I have to pay turbo V6 prices?

I still say 4AGZE motors should be cheaper in general (they're old right? ). They make the 3SGTE look like bargain.

    /endrant

    I'll keep them bookmarked.

I'm finding that "4th gen" 3sgtes (from caldina) can now be had for less than $2000 shipped. 265hp, 2.0 litre. That's a LOT of motor for the money... especially when compared to the crackhead pricing of a B18C.

Well, that's the legend. But there's no way to verify, and I've heard too many stories about engines that were WAY too dirty to match up with the "20,000 mile" claims. At least in the US, you could run a carfax on the engine VIN if you wanted to double-check.

My Watanabe 4AGE 20v motor came with a tag with the KM's written on it. I have it somewhere. It had about 110KM's or so when I got it, dripped Toyota Red coolant from the cut hoses, had a Toyota oil filter on it and had Toyota timing and accessory belts (new). For the $350 they charged me, I was happy. Too bad Watanabe went out of business.

I paid $4 k for a half cut from a reputable company. The gas filler door had oil change stickers indicating 26000 km, with the most recent being about a year before it was sitting in my garage. It was great. You just have to shop around and you get what you pay for.

In response to 92celicahalftrac I was going to buy an FE3 dohc engine for my 626. They seem to be the only company who has an engine in stock.
