I'm assuming there is a video and my work 'net is chopping it off? Also, we know the SRT-8 GC came out like 5 years ago, right? Am I missing something? I feel like I am.
On another note, I need to find out what DW drives. Does anyone know? He REALLY doesn't get the SUV market. If I had to guess, I would say Prius.

is that jeep a 4x4? I'm hoping the this V8 has less problems then jeep's previous V8 offerings, they in no way were as reliable as the I6

Yep, there's a video. It made me laugh very hard. It can also be seen here or here.
David drives a few choice automobiles, including our Porsche 911 project and our Honda CRX project. No Priuses, but there aren't any SUVs in his full-time stable either.
For what it's worth, I don't "get" the SUV market either. My wagon suits my needs well enough, and if I have the need to tow or go off-roading, I'd more likely have a pickup. To each their own.

No, no Prius here, but I admit that I'm not the world's biggest SUV fan--I'm more into sports cars, station wagons and race cars. Current fleet: Porsche 911 Carrera, Mazda Miata, Honda CRX and Innocenti Mini Cooper. Mrs. Editor drives a Civic Si.

And hope my reply didn't sound snotty. I'm just not a big SUV fan, although some I have enjoyed. The Grand Cherokee SRT8 just didn't scratch that itch. What's funny is that I wrote my comments before watching JG's video.

I know you guys don't get Jeeps, so you probably didn't know the SRT8 version has been around for about 4 years now. To be honest I didn't get the SRT8 GC when they came out either. But after seeing them run at the drag strip I got it.
They have an AWD transfer case, not the part time 4WD that the other Jeeps get. No wheelspin and low 12 second time slips were pretty impressive at the track. It's the only SRT8 available with AWD.
If it were me, I'd rather have the Charger or Challenger with the SRT8 package in the driveway. I'd also like to see Jeep have a non luxury Grand Cherokee. It doesn't have to be mine, but I'd like to see it exist.
I'd rock an SRT8 Magnum.
Given the choice between the two I may be the only person on this board that WOULD prefer the GC SRT8.

Everyone can have opinion of course. I also like sports cars...I like internal combusion powered vehicles to be specific. You can like Miatas AND a 400hp 4800lb SUVs too. I guess when you live in the flatest place on earth with no chance of deep snow you don't have a good chance to see the benifit of a winter time "sports vehicle". When September ends the Miata and M3 go in the garage and the Jeep comes out. Heck I'd love to have an SRT-8 to play with in the Winter! Honestly though the Chevy Trailblazer SS makes a lot more sence since it has a factory tow package. Maybe you've heard of that one, it didn't come out until 2006...
Also I don't feel like towing my E30 with my Miata, what a crappy trip to the track that would be.

That was about 2/3 of it. I didn't have the wide angle lens on and was too lazy to change it.
As for the GC SRT8, like I said in my epilogue, park me firmly in the "not for me but glad it exists" category. I may be able to nitpick the mission statement, but I certainly can't argue with the capabilities.
Oh, and we totally know it came out in 2006. But we just had this particular one last week and decided to make the video. Duh.

Our 4.7HO hasn't given us any trouble so far, but it only has 155k miles on it. Our 4.0 6 cylinder has about 255k now and it's starting to get tired. I'd own either vehicle again without hesitation.

I'm pretty sure Ralph Gillies ran a Jeep SRT8 in the 2007 Targa Newfoundland.
I get SUVs, but I don't get high performance SUVs. Then again, I don't get FWD drag racing either.

It wouldn't make any sense to try to make a Miata into a tow vehicle or an offroader, this is true. You can only polish a turd so much. FWD drag racing doesn't make sense because of the fundamental physics of the platform. High performance SUVs don't make any sense because they're just too big and tall and heavy from the start.
