I just read the Dukes short rant about his VW, and it really hit a nerve because I've been feeling about the same today.
So I'd just like to say I can't stand my GMC! GGGGRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Okay, now the somewhat longer rant.

I bought this truck a couple months ago. So far the trans has failed ($1500 - ouch!), the dome light has taken on a life of it's own, I blew out a shock and had to buy a whole new set, it developed an exhaust leak because a clamp rusted out, the left turn signal stopped cancelling, the radio lights went out, an O2 sensor failed and tripped a code, the auto headlights work sometimes, and just yesterday the (get this) right side exhaust down pipe of the exhaust manifold broke away from the flange and the flange broke into three equal pieces. Tell me how that happens!!! It wasn't even rusty!! I had to pretty much disassemble the dual exhaust to get the pipe out just to find a replacement isn't available. So today I welded it all back together and only hope it fits and lasts once I put it on. Am I expecting too much for a 2000 year truck with 119k on it to do better than this? Anyone want to buy what seems like a really good truck?

yikes. and i thought 3 of 12 header bolts broken was annoying on my trailblazer ss

also, gotta love a powertrain warranty that according to the manufacturer doesnt include bolts that break

I think I'll keep my 300k mile 91 Suburban. Balljoints and brakes seems to be all it needs. Wait I did have to put a new column bearing in it and broke the cancelling cam in the process, but at 300k I can't really complain.

Do you have a history on this truck? Multiple failures like that can often mean it was apart and put together poorly-like after an accident.

Hmmm. I've had a 2000 Silverado 2500 for the last 18 months or so. About the same mileage. It's been absolutely perfect. Needed tires and a trans (from PO abuse/stupidity) when I bought it and that's it. No glitches, faults, failures, rattles, wierd noises etc. I use it almost every day and tow 4000-6500 lbs with it fairly regularly. I love it.

Great. I have had an '04 2500HD for 6 mos... hopefully this isn't the kind of thing I have to look forward to.

The only thing that has happened to mine so far is the cluster went insane. The internet tells me they all do. The fix is a rebuilt one for $175. There is a rumor the dealer will pay 50% but I didn't know that until after I already did it myself.

Dealer did my dad's for free. This is canuckland though, and he bitched about it a lot/knows people (if that counts for anything).

Well there were a lot of updates between '00 and '04, so maybe you'll be spared. I also have the aggrevation of every parts counter twit telling me my '00 Sierra can't have a 6.0l engine in it. Yeah, kid, I don't know what kind of engine I have in my truck. I had to show one guy before he'd believe me, and even then he told me it must be an '01.

This is definitely not the same thing, tho it was built by GM...my '82 Cavalier had the exhaust manifold break into 2 pieces at about 60,000 miles. I had never heard of that before but a co-worker who moonlighted at a gas station (back when they worked on cars and weren't mini grocery stores/snack bars), said busted exhaust manifolds were a common Cavalier problem. I also had other small problems with this car, like the shift knob disintegrated into about 4 or 5 plastic pieces, the window winder know came off in my hand, and the speedo cable rattled at speeds over 40 mph....and rattled really loudly.

There's a problem..... 1500's in 00 didn't get the 6.0L. What;s the 8th digit of the VIN? Only the 2500's got them.

Ah... I saw the (1500) and in my drug induced, sick haze thought that you were saying it was a 1500....

I'd say whoever had that truck before you beat the E36 M3 out of it. They obviously didn't change the trans fluid and exhaust rusting out happens on EVERY truck.

But you're right, all trucks in that era MUST OBVIOUSLY be piles of crap because you got a bad example. Shoulda bought a honda.

I looked at one - a friend has an early one. Pretty decent if you don't need much truck. Unfortunately... I needed more truck than the Tundra V8 I sold to buy the 2500HD.

Honestly - if it proves to be reliable, it's a comfortable, capable, economical... stupidly powerful (6.6 Duramax) machine. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

If it falls apart soon, I take it all back.

^ 2500 AND 2500hd/3500 are completely different trucks. Other than maybe the taillights and doors the rest is pretty much different. Different axles, different frame, different suspesnions.... and there's something about those cloth seats that don't look like they'd be comfy.... but after 5k miles in 7 days your butt still isn't sore.

Somehow I missed the pic ealier. If nothing else you have a good looking truck on your hands. Sucks about the issues though. Maybe once you get them worked out you'll be fine.
