I have heard the Kuhmo XS's are a better tire for high-heat track days (20-minute HPDE sessions) than the RE-01Rs, but I have not heard any input on how quiet or comfortable the XSs are.
For reference, lets say the RE-01R scores a 10 in comfort, while the Azenis 615 scores a 1.
Does anyone have input on this?
I'd like to know also. Considering those tires or the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs for next season of HPDE and street driving.
We just picked up a set for our 2006 MX-5, but driving impressions will have to wait until we put the engine bay back together
Still, the MX was a nice riding tire. Never driven the RE-01R, but I'd put the MX on the other side of the scale from an Azenis.
the mx's i had on my rsx were nice, but they got loud after about 10,000 miles (still had plenty of tread after 15,000 on them as well)
Just for reference: The RE-01R is ride quality is incredibly quiet, and they stay balanced even after atuox events. The RT-615s are just awful due to the super stiff sidewalls, and they seem to go out of balance magically on thier own just sitting there.
I put a set on a Miata 3 weeks ago just in time to miss our final rained out autocross. Since then it's been pretty cold, so the traction's been a little degraded. They feel pretty good around town and up to 65 MPH, smooth with a bit of tread noise (what I call thruming). I think they'll be fine for daily driving when the temps are above 40 F or so. Still no real experience with them in the wet, though.
What I really want to know is how they do at an autocross.
