Got a 92 Prelude with some blown shocks and was looking for replcements. Noticed that Advance Auto Parts carries the KYB GR2 for the same price as the stock Monroe replacement. Sounds like a good deal, anybody got any thoughts?

kyb gr2's are in most cases just stock replacement shocks. When I bought rear struts for my wife's camry, kybgr2's were what showed up when I asked the parts store for some replacement struts. They are much better than the blown ones that were in there, but don't seem to offer any performance advantage.

They are just parts store quality replacement parts (same performance as oem, but last around 1/4 as long).

Not a performance shock but I usually replace OEM with them and have no problems.
For an upgrade look to Bilstein or Koni

Kinda what I thought, the car is going to be a DD for my kid so Bilstein or Koni would be overkill. Just figured i might be getting a better quality stock than the Monroe replacement.

I don't know...I've used KYB GR2 (silver) shocks twice now and feel they are far more firm than stock. Too firm for my Fiat 124 and not yet sure I love them on the Forester. I never liked them on the Fiat; they just made too much 'bang' over bumps in that car. To be fair, that thing was engineered for weepy oil shocks. However, I'm not wowed by them in the Forester for the same reason. They crash over expansion joints and things far more than Subaru's own generally stiffer struts.

YMMV depending on your exact application, but in my experiences with RWD Corollas I would rate them a bit better than the original 25-year -old worn-out stockers, but not as good of a performance option as Tokico, and certainly far from Koni or TRD.

What do you guys think about the KYB AGX adjustable shocks? I'm cross-shopping those alongside Koni Yellows fro my FC. I like that the KYB fronts are pre-built instead of cartridges like the Konis, and that the rears can be adjusted externally instead of having to remove the rear speakers (Mazda mounted the rear speakers in the rear strut mounts). However, if they are crap, then I'll pass and just get the Konis. Tokico also makes adjustable struts for the FC, but I haven't heard many good things about them.
