This relates to Formula Kludge. I'm looking for inexpensive sources of North/South installation transaxles capable of handling decent hp/torque. Bill Gotwalt said on the Locost mailing list years ago that the 914 transaxle could be made to handle 300 hp, but I have my doubts. Any other suggestions are welcome. Keep in mind, we're talking Challenge-type budgets.

The 5cyl fwd audi box from the 80's seems to hold up to v8 levels of torque for these guys

The 924S/944 transaxle piece is the same with the difference being the passthrough for the shift linkage.

Gearing varied a little and there was a 6-speed derivative available in AWD in the states and FWD elsewhere.
