I finally got off my butt and joined this. I'm the guy who purchased the car. Currently she is around 95k miles and still running quite well. The color is not original and is actually licensed Lamborghini yellow paint. It's an okay job overall but very splotchy in some places which if I have her in the long term will be probably a lot of touch up work. The Gear shift is meh but I can deal and the interior is all original and good shape overall for being 30 years old 'cept I guess the second owner (I'm the 4th) wanted to change the tape deck for a c.d. (I would rather had the old cassette one actually anyway). Shocking I read the power windows are always the first thing to do and they actually work flawlessly. Got collectors plates on it and garaging it way before it gets too cold or anything to do with winter since every owner before me did the same. I love the car and everything from how it handles, the seating arrangement, dash, how it delivers its power (originally 229, probably a tad under 200 now with age), and frankly the styling all are fantastic.
As for what isn't great... The locks are bunk like what someone mentioned. They turn on and off over and over again after using them (15 minutes one time) and will lock you if you use them sometimes... so I am currently looking into deactivating them and replacing them with just a key lock (simpler but not gonna break). The AC sometimes work but frankly the windows are down 90% of the time and I am fine without. Then the speedo works but only when you're at about 3/4 a tank and above. What I am thinking is happening is the electrical lines merge together in places so when the dash gauge is below its not sending the right signal for the speedo but just reading the tachometer works fine for gauging speed.
Then I have a bit of an issue at hand (nothing too bad). I have been trying to maintain the car well I have been doing oil and filter changes way more frequently than necessarily to make sure everything's running well. The fuel line, brakes, and air filtration was all replaced shortly before I got it and I have recently changed the fuel injectors, and done a somewhat thorough maintenance job on it. However; I am now having a slight issue that no one seems to know for sure what I need... and that's what transmission fluid it'll take. Carl (the guy I got her from) did a changed shortly before selling and I checked it when going through the car and its low (not really dangerously but I will not drive it till I can take care of it). I am having issues contacting the man I purchased it from or a guy I know who has a '78 on what kind it'll take. My owners manual says Dexron II Type-D which is obsolete and hasn't been made since the 80s. So I read things on how Dex III will do the same and better but some won't work on old cars, I've been browsing forums, and nothing conclusive ('cept on S4s and GTSs). I've read of people putting in something that's multi-vehicle and blowing the tranny in 2 minutes and spending 8k plus in a rebuild... and yeah... not in budget and not will/wanting to take any chances. If any one have an ideas where to point me in the right direction that would be awesome. Thanks.
