OK, maybe not so much "motorsports", but I thought the topic might get lost on the OT list.

Daughter's b/f is looking at one, a 2007. About 38K (low for Atl. Metro), Carfax says one fender-bender (no airbag deploy). Anybody got anything to check for?

Well, the board talked me out of getting a new left over Reno (5 door sibling) for $9k last year. Seams that daewoo hasn't come as far as the other Korean manufacturers.

If you didn't know, The Forenza and Reno are rebadged Daewoos (under the ownershipof GM) and is also sold in the UK as the Chevy Laccetti (AKA TG's "Reasonably Priced Car")

    Yikes! A $%^#$%^&%^&%^&$%$%#$@!#$!#&^(&*)^&$#% Daewoo?!?!?!

Badge engineering at it's "finest", I suppose. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since all the other stuff I found online were comments about wiring harness problems and broken internal door handles. Oh, and dying modules on the slushboxes.

Asking price is 6900. I told them if they couldn't get it for 6K or less, walk.

ThunderCougarFalconGoat's girlfriend is selling a 2001 Daewoo (I rode in it and can't remember WTF it was, some souless 4-door 4-banger) for like $3K with ~75K miles that's minty fresh and never hit. I don't think any of the Daewoo/Suzuki/Chevy badge engineers are really worth it...

I'd look for a Hyundai Accent. $6000 (or $4500 even) will get you/him/anyone a really nice, lightly used, quality, low mileage example for sure.

My only clear memory of the Forenza I had as a rental a few years back was that the trunk lid had the thinnest sheet metal I've ever seen on a car. I seriously think I could have folded into some sort of origami swan had I been so inclined.

Thanks, man...I think the guy's dad (who's probably paying for the car) is just looking at the age of the car, and doesn't realize how little that BMW E36 really means when it comes to finding a good car, even if the car is just an appliance.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna tell them to walk.

Do you ever feel, as the only "car guy" amongst a bunch of people, a certain (petty) sense of power? Kinda like you're their great automotive advisor, in which they trust.

I hate to admit it, but yeah! This case is a perfect example. I texted my daughter this morning, and said they should walk-after all, 7K could get a pretty good Civic or Corolla. She replied that the b/f's dad is dead-set upon something less than 5yr old with less than 100,000mi.

I instinctively sent back, "..oh, well. Y'all should go ahead and get the POS. It'll teach his dad a lesson." After reading your post, I realized what I was really saying was, "Deny me at your own peril, knave!" ROFL!

Hmmm... Less than 5 years old and less than 100K and safe plus 4-doors? Did somebody say P71?

Update: They listened to me. Even got the dad to cough up another $1K.

2004 Honda Accord, less than 100Kmi. Haven't seen it yet, but sounds good.
