rust every body part, buy Racelands, drop them stupid low and buy yourself a set of RS's or CCW's that are made for RWD cars and are too wide, so just stretch a ridiculously small tire on it and buy 1 inch spacers so it pokes and you'll be Hellaflush yo! and put the VW>Honda stickers all over it and all of a sudden have a hatred for ONLY Honda's.....trust me, you do all that and only that you'll be winning VW shows nationwide.

Buy some skin tight jeans, a flatbrim hat; preferrably Monster, hideous color shoes and shades and you will fit in

for crying out loud, please don't ask me how I know all that

Ohh I'm sure. That motor's worth more than what you bought the car for. Even with a basic part out, you'll come out ahead. Hell, you already came out ahead by driving home in style, comfort and speed!

I used to do fleet maintenance of about 25 Mk IV's and 20 Civics for Zipcar in Boston. As long as you're comparing the car to other VWs, it's not too bad. The difference between the VW and the Hondas was enlightening, though.

In the year I was there, we had no major mechanical issues with any of the civics, even the one that one of our customers filled up with diesel. Now, most were only a couple years old at that point, but it's a pretty good sample size and a pretty rough life for the cars to live. I honestly don't remember ever having a honda go down for anything but an oil change or body work (we had about one accident per week).

All the VWs had to go in for repairs at some point though, many more than once. Everything from window switches that just fell into the door when you pushed them on up to transmission replacements. About the most I could say for them is that the engines and suspension were relatively tough. Everything else broke.

The difference was stark and made me appreciate how Honda builds stuff more than it made me hate VWs (I continued to drive them for 8 more years).

Definitely not worried about coming out ahead. As you said it was worth it to have A/C and a roof over my head for the trip home. It will part out easy but its in really good shape and my pops could really use the car so I'd rather not part it out if I dont have to.
