First road test. And it's glorious. Not perfect, but it's all fairly minor stuff.

It's a baritone, not a bass. Great sound under power. More exotic than a blat.

Looks great! We need more video with engine sound and less written descriptions

I just noticed that the ND has reverted to four lug wheels.

This pleases me to no end.

And they seem to have a lot of offset...might need to find me some takeoffs from somewhere so I can try them on the Molvo. Do they really have a 55mm backspace?

I love that back tire figment. Looks perfect

The wheel fitment can be described as "barely".

Wheels are +45 offset. These are a 17x9, I'll let you figure out the backspace.

Video will come. When the car first moves under its own power at 5:30, you drive it instead of taking videos It'll get a checkup tomorrow morning then I'll shoot a bit of video. I cannot promise burnouts unless the boss is not around.

I heard those cars won't even do a burnout...

That's what I was going to say - saves the weight of 4 lug nuts.

Now for a real question... How much weight did this add to the car?

Actually, my NA usually hooks up instead. Makes for bad pictures and fast starts, which is kinda how I like it...

By my math its something like 169mm of backspacing. 6 inches and changr.

For a post that was just a picture of a Miata with some stickers in front of a road, it's created quite a stir. I've heard from two major magazines - not including GRM, R&D has put two articles on their website today and I've heard from people all over the place. Some point out that we're not the first to do a V8 anything (true), some point out that there are other things you could buy for the same money (no argument), some say it's still a Miata (this is a bad thing?) and some just say "shut up and take my money!" (we'd love to, but they never really mean it). It's kept me busy all day.

The drive home tonight was pretty fun. Then I picked up my wife, dropped the top and took the back roads to an awesome pizza place, coming home under the stars. You know, road testing. Not the worst finish to a day I've ever had.

Are you asking about OBD-II? We can build them with the E-Rod engine, which adds enough emissions monitoring to satisfy any emissions test we've come across. The car even reports the vehicle VIN.

The turn-key conversion will run $49,995 - you supply the Miata. I'm putting the options list together now. It's not a cheap date, but neither was an original Cobra back in the day and there aren't a lot of cars that can give you the same experience. Personally, I want to build one out of an RF - it'll be like a baby Pantera. Might have to buy a lotto ticket.

What front engine, rear drive convertibles offer over 500 hp? How about in a manual? How much more do they weigh? This is a really neat package. Comparing it to a Cobra is probably most appropriate, except you get a lot more civility in the MX-5.
