I'm just not sure what problem they are intended to solve. I thought it was some emissions thing, that they were trying to keep the fumes from ZOMG teh environment, except that the new tard cans result in spilled fuel which get to evaporate into ZOMG teh environment!!!!

I've had the same problems with the new cans. The Blitz brand seems to be much better than the Scepter brand, at least in the cans I've bought. Here's a PM test: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/products/abusive-lab-test-gas-cans

From the title, I thought you were looking for Canadian high flow toilets or Jarts.

I was going to go buy a can today too.. manual says my saab has an 18gallon tank.. when I fill it up when it gets to 1/8 on the tank.. it only takes 10 gallons.. I wanted to test this.

Wonder if I can get a 1991 vintage can to go with the car?

It'll have to be used, then.

This stupid law has killed the Jerry can as we know it. Look it up!

Is this a national law? When did this come out? I haven't bought a gas can in a year or so, and the last one I bought didn't have that spring loaded leak inducer thingie ya'll are complaining about. Maybe they just forgot about Arkansas? I almost got hit by an old style 5 gallon jug flying off a trailer in front of me last week. Maybe I should have stopped and picked it up?

Because as you know, most of use leave gasoline containers sitting inside on our counters where kids can pul them down on themselves and get doused, bursting into flames when they pass by an open flame.

I have nothing against keeping kids safe, but my daughter cannot access my guns, alcohol, poison, copy of "On the Origin of Species" or anything else dangerous that I have because I am a responsible parent, not because I am forced to buy inferior products by the government. End rant.

My kids have access to gas and power tools. But I've taught them well and there is no need to worry with them...yet.

What really irks me is that they changed the size of the cap assembly so you can't put the old-school nozzles onto the new tanks. Apparently they make some sort of flexible hose that goes on the end so you can fuel cars with it without spilling gas all over the place. They right next to the cans. For five bucks each.

I wound up digging a can out of the back storage shed that was there when I bought the house. Once I shook the brown recluse out of it and cleaned it up inside and out, I'm ready to go.

(edit: apparently I can't write coherently any more)

I bought one of those plastic spout deals without any of the spring-loaded tomfoolery just last year...

    Are those things that new?

What I really wanted was a metal can like my dad has...

That's Asinine. Besides everyone knows Napalm is the best way to catch kids on fire. (when you find yourself humming that later today, You're Welcome). My can seems to take the warnings a bit further to say that fueling road going vehicles is prohibited. I will continue to do that with old Pepsi bottles like I always had when I ran out of gas.

my recollection is that it started out as a California law (go figure...) to save the environment or something.. a big retail chain that shall remain nameless (rhymes with "small dart") decided that they didn't want to have to carry a special gas can just for California, so they started just selling the new cans nationwide... i wonder if the border patrol would say anything if i was to go up the Winnepeg and come back across the border with about 20 of the good old style gas cans.. probably get labeled a terrorist and get shipped off to Gitmo..

I have one...but it'll cost you, heh heh.

No seriously, I have one in my trunk for emergency fuel-getting were I to run out. When was this law passed?

YESSS!! I tried the same thing!

I have a blitz and I think it sucks rocks--- secure little extension tube, lift tank and put nozzle in place, move switch, push handle down, invert tank, curse safety nazis when flow does not begin, repeat at least 3 times until it stars.

Sign me up for the canidian smuggling operation.

Huh. I just threw out about three of the old-style cans. Had too many cluttering my garage.

Do you know where to get "real" jarts?

On another note, a VP Sales guy where I worked would travel from Chicago to London, Ontario for business at the GM Electomotive plant.

One time he was building a new house and he told me he smuggled 3 new Canadian toilets across the border. He was really pumped about it too.
