There is a guy in my Bonneville club who has a cross threaded spark plug hole. I remember there being a tool that fit into the hole and expanded so it could thread from the bottom up, pulling the shavings out of the hole with it, enabling you to repair the hole without removing the head.

Does anyone know where I can find one of these? Did I make it up?

Squirt cylinder full of shaving creme, with the piston at BDC. Cut threads. Rotate engine and the shaving creme will push all the metal shavings out of the bore.

You didn't image it. I came across one while trying to find a rethreading tool for an O2 sensor hole.

Sorry, I forgot what it's called specifically.

Backtap works great. Regular rethreader can work, but you have to be super careful to start it dead straight.
