OK, my wife just had a baby boy and I want some kool stuff to decorate his room. My wife already started a motorsport theme with some vinyl decals of superbikes and motorcross riders. I would love to find some “toys” to decorate the rest of the room. I know better then to have these in a place that he can get to them, I have some high shelves and a armoire to put these on. I would love a large F1 car to mount on the wall – like it is driving up it. But I can’t find anything that is bigger then 6” long that doesn’t cost as much as a challenge car (thanks Bernnie). I did come across some of these places – this stuff is sweet. CLICK THIS
They had them at the hospital gift shop, but I can’t see paying $50+ for some little china made thing. If it was an artist that made it, fine, but they are mass produced.

This is kool, but again small and pricy, but at least it is going to charity. CLICK THIS

I like this - CLICK THIS but 1:18 seems small and there is no way I would pay that kind of coin.

Anyone have some ideas? Places to shop? Places to get collectables (not really into Nascar – but love MotoGP, F1, ALMS and supercross). I have some “toys” in my office that I can use – Jeremy McGrath bobblehead, old helmets.

My daughter was easy – we did kind of a car theme. But her name is Elise, I plan to decorate the garage for her as soon as I can afford to.

I really like these. They are safe for babies to play with if you remove the "people" from the car. They are somewhat collectible too. http://www.automoblox.com/ You can take them apart and combine them with other cars to make new designs.

How about lexan R/C car bodies? If you mount a F1 (or other car) to the wall you've got to paint some tire tracks behind it.

    Tamiya

    How about 1/20 scale models?

I don't know about painting tracks on the wall, maybe put some red & white curbs

this is what is over the crib - we are going to put his name over it.

How big is 1:20? that looks perfect.

+1 for the automoblox. I have several of their mini's, including the ALMS Highcroft racing one they release a couple weeks ago.

Rusnak:1:20 is a couple of percent smaller than 1:18. It's not much but it is noticeable if the two are set together. I was going to suggest some Tamiya kits, but TJ beat me to it. While Tamiya makes some of the best car kits out there, their newest stuff can be tricky. I've got some of their older F1 kits that I'll probably never get around to building. If you'd like them let me know and we'll talk.

81gtv6 - that is what I am looking for. That is the perfect size.

$50 aint bad for that - I will get a lot of use out of it while my baby is sleeping.

I searched google for F1 car 1:6 and found THIS ONE -

It is the same size (also comes in fake ferrari), had a wheel controler and it is a little cheaper. But it is on backorder.

these are very cool. Even if they were not RC cars.

Try O.P. Taylors for car toys:

    http://www.optaylors.com/

You may want to call, as I didn't see a lot of his car models listed on the website. John is the owner, and a racer and real car guy. He has been a friend of GRM / CMS for years. (he supplies the models used for the Challenge trophies)

You may have seen him at events (Mitty, Rolex, etc) he is the guy always wearing the propeller beenie hat.

Make sure you tell him you are a GRM/ CMS reader, he may give you a deal!

I want them for my desk at work now.. HA! How do you tell your child that you "need" to steal their toys for desk ornaments?
