Confirmed there's a LS2 (IIRC) powered RX-8 undergoing some work in Bryan.

Hinson LSx RX-8 swap kit coming soon.
I don't know them, and can't vouch for any of their work, but they should have a swap kit very, very soon. Looks like I have a project this winter.
Anyone have a good source for LS1/6's? They tend to be a little more stout than the LS2/3/7's. And are probably cheaper to boot.

If you don't mind the iron block the 4.8/5.3/6.0 truck engines are uber stout.

Don't worry bruceman, I have plans to build a locost around the soon to be removed wankle. I think it (and myself) will like it's new home better.

Am I the only person left who likes rotaries in their RX-7s and RX-8s?

I haven't heard many good things about Hinson's RX-7/240SX to LSx conversion kits, mainly that the mounts fail. The rest of the stuff they make gets high marks, just not the swap kits. Granny's Speed Shop has better reviewed swap parts, but I don't see anything for the RX-8. You may want to contact them to see if they have anything in the works:

Is this swap really worth the hassle and cost involved? Just buy a C5 vette add a few mods and be done with it, unless you really need 4 seats. Then maybe a GTO or CTS-V

No, I do too, at least in RX-7s. I've never driven an RX-8 but everything I've read about how unreliable the Renesis is* and how hard they are to boost (thanks to the ports being moved) makes me think a V-8 swap will be a great improvement for it. I've considered a V-8 swap into my FC, but I'm waiting for Mazda to release the new 16X rotary and I'm trying to find a hardtop FC to replace my sunroof-equipped model. The 16X is supposed to have vast improvements in weight, fuel consumption, oil consumption, and torque over the Renesis. I'd love to swap one into an FC.
*I'm sure much of the Renesis' "unreliability" comes from owners not maintaining them properly, but Mazda putting an extended warranty on the engine gives me pause.

The swap will give you a 4 seat Corvette. No amount of upgrades will make a GTO or CTS-V handle like an RX-8.

+1000 I got to drive a friends Rx-8 through some very quick sweepers and one VERY tight corner, I was floored it felt just as composed as my old FD, and through the sweeper at 90+mph the bumps and rough country roads didn't even give it pause. Amazing.
