    I drive by an LS swap every day. (Hi Greg!)

    They rarely drive by me...mostly because they're incomplete.

    Boring? Really?? Like some people think the missionary position is boring... you're still gettin' your nut off bitches.

    ... some people

    Anyone who thinks they're boring hasn't driven my car. It's definitely NOT boring!

    Not a whole lot of LS equipped Porsche 944's driving around either. I know of one other one in my entire state.

    I never said they were boring to drive, just that the swap itself has now been done so much to so many different cars that it's "expected", and therefore boring. (That doesn't change the fact that I want to replace the engine in my 944 with an LS1!!!).

    Actually, come to think of it, we have just as many LS1 944's in our PCA region as N/A ones...

    Just put a new engine cover on ours last night :) Is it exciting now?

    I think LS swaps would be a blast to drive, but it is not unique i think is what your trying to say.... an LS swapped RX7 s kinda old news isn't it? But a new ford 5.0 is different, or a GTR motor, or an M3, but then you get into paying out the butt just to BE unique and you really arent getting any more performance...

    i rarely see them here. like i can count on one hand how many i have seen in person counting my own car. when i pop my hood a crowd forms and jaws drop.

    i have, however, seen a quad 4 in a 47 international pickup.

    for some reason people still think TPI engines are a cool swap. "hey guys i just put fuel injection on my car.....now it won't rev past 4300"

    the internets make it seem like everyone and their brother is driving an LS powered vehicle.

    Javelin, where do you live? Around here, 300 hp Civics were mostly imaginary, there were maybe two that I can think of. And at the local cruise nights, there sure aren't many LS-powered cars. At our track days, the only LS-powered cars are ones built by GM, by myself or by FM Granted, we're not exactly a teeming metropolis, but 100% of the 944s at our track days are on the stock engine. Both of them.

    In Washington, but closer to Portland. We have more SR20 240's than KA ones (and more LS1 ones than KA ones as well).

    At the last autocross of the season we had the following, all with LS1-swaps:
    * FC RX-7
    * Widebody FC RX-7
    * FD RX-7
    * FD RX-7
    * FD RX-7 R1
    * 240Z
    * E36 M3
    * 240SX
    * 3rd Gen Z/28
    * 944

    We also have an STi-swapped (now with Lotus Elise suspension) 914, a 914-6 GT clone, 3 SR20 240SX's, a 3.6 varoram 73 Carrera RS, 2 5.0 FB RX-7's, a 383 FC RX-7, and more. It's pretty much swap city around here.

    Just in the local cl:

    FC RX7 LS1 project

    327 Volvo wagon

    LS1 34 Studebaker

    They made 11ty billion of them

    Hotrod got 1200hp out of a stock short block 4.8 iron turd - yes stock rods and pistons. They got 415 with ported stocker heads and a cam... from a 4.8...

    they are cheap

    they make the right sound...

    sometimes being different with a "unique" engine and trans setup just means you were too stupid to use what works.

    No emissions inspections out there I take it? Sounds too easy.

    No emissions here either.

    Just in 240s...

    At least two 2jz powered ones that I know of. A few lsx. Half dozen turbo ka24s. Bunch of sr20s including one with a full mazworx motor. Over 700whp. One with a vg30det, converted to one monster turbo. Over 600hp. A few rb swapped cars. At least one vh45 swap as well.

    This place is a bit strange now that I think about it.

    Anybody know if a 4.8 crank would bolt into a 6.0 block?

    yeah, but that gets you into the world of custom pistons (unless there's a stock piston/rod combo that works) and custom balancing..

    In reply to DaewooOfDeath:

    I was thinking the same thing. A 6.0L block with the short crank would get a really sweet over square setup for a revvy motor.

    Whatever you do, replace the pistons. I have 80k on my truck with the 6.0, and I have major piston slap and it burns a qt of oil every 1k miles. I don't know if they ever fixed that issue, but it's pretty common on trucks of that era. For all the hype about what great engines they are, I would think GM would know how long to make the piston skirt.

    I prefer to copulate face to face, hanging by my arms from tree branches. You'd be surprised how turned on women get from reenacting three toed sloth mating rituals.

    Just because it works doesn't mean it is exciting to hear about. Which is the point of this thread.

    The biggest failure we see on GM LS engines is the carboning of piston rings. I have a line on at least two 5.3L or 6.0L engines per month for $300.00 each in need of new pistons and rings. I consider it every time I see one but I am going to wait to see what the (REDACTED) is like in it's current form.
