I started searching CL for "swap" and this is too funny to not share.

I wasn't planning on acting on any of this til srping, but theres a 96 Neon and a 96 200SX at the charity auction near me this weekend. Wonder what kind of trouble I'd get into if someone was to help me haul home another clunker...

You call, I haul. I might enlist your help getting the remains of the red parts Neon to the scrapyard, tho =)

And there will be, on every page this thread lasts, until you buy a Neon.

Seriously, they're an absolute ball to drive. They're like GC Imprezas, you can drive them however you want and they just work. Very flexible engines, forgiving yet capable chassis, stone simple suspensions.

There's a couple loonies up north who play with Civics. Crazy power can be had with some junkyard engineering (I got to drive one of them... HOLY CRIPES that car had straight line speed), but they seem to go through a lot of halfshafts in the process. And the last time I saw the one car, it left on a trailer after one of the ball joints came loose from the control arm... seems that they wore the threads out on the balljoint and the nut blew off. Oops.

Not that my mechanical predicaments are much better, mind you, but then, I'm not driving a Neon either.

Accent- I like the idea but I am guessing suspension and lsd options will be very limited if that matters to you.

This is true but, I could get all of this here in Korea very cheaply, very easily. I mention this because shipping from Korea to the US is about 400 times cheaper than you'd imagine.

Hmm, are there any cheap turbo kits for Alpha or Beta engines?

The Accent seems to be the closest I can get in size to my old CRX in a reasonable budget, in a car that still has easy to get parts.

You can turbo the alpha cheaply or turbo the beta. For rally cross I would probably just go with an NA beta. They are a header and cold air intake from 170 hp if you go with the 2.0L.

The Accents are actually very similar, suspension and chassis wise, to a Neon. Oh, and they look cool all racecar'd out.

Swap a beta in it and gut the hell out of it. It'll be quick.

    This ^

Did I mention they weigh 2100 lbs from the factory and that the only serious reliability problems all came from the autotragics?

You'll want to go for the 95 to 99 models.

Yeah, if I was planning on buying now, I'd've already contacted that guy. A little de-ricing, new springs, struts, and some rally tires, and it looks like it'd be pretty much good to go.

Actually, keep the struts, add stock SRT springs and rally tires, and good to go.

    Pass on that, IMO.

2nd-gen Neons rust in horrible ways.
