There is a group in Canada that ice race them.
Sort of like spec racing.

Racing a Chevette should instantly get you a 10 grid spot advantage, or a spot of 2 laps!

One local guy had put a Ford 2.3 turbo in one and was running 10's IIRC.

The red one I posted a pic of actually won the mini stock point's championship in 96, without winning a single feature. It had 500 k on it when he built it... in 94, and he's still racing it
Finished 7th in points last season.

It's definitely one of the cars I love for reasons....I'm not entirely sure.
For those curious; 60 degree V6 swaps are common as all hell. There was a guy in Saskatchewan that swapped in a Twin Turbo 3.4L
Buick 3.8s fit, but for some reason I recall them being a bit tougher.
4.3L 6s have been done plenty of times.
I just want to use a Suzuki 2.5 or 2.7L in it (claim it came from a Chevy Tracker...).
Suspension up front is EXTREMELY similar to the first gen Fiero. Rear suspension is torque tube with one of the weakest axles ever put into a GM product. Anything more than 120hp is semi-assured to twist and snap a shaft.

1st suspension itteration of the Fiero was from Chevette and Citation. Not exactly stellar starting hardware. Later stuff was different and much better.

Great, now I want to build one as a challenge car. Luckily, I have no money and just as much space. Anyone know of a free Chevette I can have?
It was the first car I remember my Dad owning. He had a yellow auto that went through three engines before being junked because of a giant hole in the driver side floor pan. As a silly child, I preferred it to my mom's '76 Ventura with the 307 and white leather because it had 4 doors and it was easier to get into. Come to think of it, I want the Ventura back.
