What did you guys pay for a used Mazda5? I'm interested in grabbing one for ~$8k, but they seem to be commanding a premium around here. The only ones I'm seeing for less than $10k have 130k+ miles.

FWIW, all used cars seem to be commanding ridiculous premiums these days, and the definition for "low miles" seems to have increased to about 90,000.

That's how we ended up buying new... With demand for used cars up and demand for new cars down, the gap narrows, and the depreciation outlook improves.
By putting that last item in my calculations, I have single-handedly ensured the rebound of the economy and subsequent bottom falling out of the used market. I suspect within three years, which is when we plan to try for the long-term, high-mpg applicance again...
Sorry for the tangent. If you can find the millenium falcon thread, I'm pretty sure Javelin said what he'd picked his up for in there.

In Feb we will have had ours for a year (wife's DD.)
It was a new, late production 2010 model. They were dealing since the newer 2012's were already on the lot.
$17,500 for a Sport model with automatic.
List $19,900 Financed at .9%
My guess is that again, next month they will go through model change-over again.
I just looked at the website and they are doing .9% for 60 months again. -

Just about exactly 1 year ago I paid $9250 for our 06 Mazda5 5-Speed with 65K miles. The manual trans ones go for way less up here for some reason. I'd suggest a fly/drive, but damn you're far away.

Just as a data point, a local Mazda dealer here is advertising a brandy new 2012 Mazda5 sport manual for $17,500.
Admittedly, I thought about it for a few minutes.

I've looked at these off and on, and the Mazda5 seems to be (at least to me) one of those vehicles that is never "thick on the ground", except at a stupidly managed Mazda dealer. In other words, they are hard to find and can command a highish price. Manual transmission examples can go for a few hundred lower than an automatic...but they are also less lavishly equipped than a run-of-the-mill Mazda5 (if there is such a thing).
If you haven't already, look at what some owners are saying about the 5 over on Edmunds. I try to take most comments with a grain of salt, but that messageboard has VERY few owners who seem delighted with their 5s after making just a few payments. Looming large is a dissatisfaction over fuel mileage...but that is common with many small cars on the market today. Nearly as common, and more troubling is that many owners feel that the 5 is "not ready for prime time yet", that it has too many teething problems.

Besides the splash pan, the 1st. gen. Mazda5, Mazda3 2.3L, and Mazdaspeed3/6 had cartridge oil filters. I hated doing oil changes on my MS3 as well, but there is an OEM kit you can install to convert them to traditional spin-on filters. I think it's about $50-65 for a Mazda3/5 2.3L kit, plus install should be easier because those don't have an oil cooler mounted on top like the MS3/MS6 do.

Ours has been great. I think the mileage is pretty good and I like the size. Our '08 has the five speed auto and gets 25 in town and 31 on the highway. I was surprised how much the book out at as a used vehicle when I checked ours recently.
