My mechanic told me to think about finding some new rocker arms part # a1100550901 as two on the exhaust side are starting to wear. I told him "No problem, I can find them cheap online." Well I'll be damned if what was a 30$ part easy to find just plain disappeared. I cannot find any, I actually did find one new one but it still costs 75$, I'll let you imagine what the local dealer wants.

Does anyone here know where to find some new rocker arms from a mercedes m110 engine? I'm going to start looking into buying some used ones if I cannot find a few new ones. It looks like the rockers on the exhaust side take the brunt of the wear as both worn rockers are on the exhaust side.

Any help of suggestions are appreciated. I only need to do a few more jobs and I should finally be able to start driving the car more aggressively. Revving this engine to 6000rpm is a true joy.

    Thanks folks!

Worldpac no longer stocks them. Try German Auto in Georgia, 1 800 542 6127, you'll get Malcolm. Tell him Mike at Star sent you (he'll probably hang up ). If he doesn't have them, he might have a line on some.

OK, so it's not just small blocks. In fact, a guy I knew had welded a bunch of them up into little sculptures because he had no use for them.

It sounds like i'm SOL as far as new rockers go. Mercedes must have got involved with the mafia to extort us old car drivers. I did actually contact a mercedes engine rebuilder and they have used rockers for 25$ each so that might be the way to go.

I'll stick with the mercedes engine. DOHC inline 6, domed pistons, factory dual exhaust and it has a hemi head. My 280 actually put out similar HP numbers to the 4.5l V8 in american import 450. I think the corvette from the late 70s was thoroughly anemic so all the talk about US V8 engine sounds like a moot point.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions!

    In reply to benzbaron:

Make no mistake, I wasn't suggesting you replace the engine, I just commented since someone baited the question. In their defense though, they looked the same and took up the same space and weight from 1955 to the late 90's, so speaking of comparable horsepower numbers from the same era really shouldn't enter into it.

Used rockers are easily the way to go, especially from a reputable machine shop that can check them for cracks, defects and other wear before selling them to you, and $25 is a great deal.

Well I sent out a ballistic array of emails to about 5 parts places and might have found a set of new rockers for around 30$ each. Hopefully it comes through because then I can get this buttoned up and find out if the car has bumble bees or popcorn in the engine around 6000rpm.
