What are the early '80s Mercedes SL like to drive/ can the be used as a DD? I am just curious and my friend was asking me.

I'm quite certain that any car can be used as a DD, and a Mercedes SL would be an outstanding candidate.

Before or after you rebuild the front suspension and fix the steering? If you do the suspension up the cars can be quite fun to drive but you have to muscle them a bit. I try to drive my car daily when I am not repairing something. The cars are pretty robusto but they do rust something fierce. Depending on how much you are looking to spend I'd find the latest model you can get as there were refinements over the years.
They are great cars but any car that old will require some work. Luckily most things can be repaired rather than replaced if you are so inclined.
