I have to order a drier bottle and expansion valve for my sister's Miata, RockAuto only has parts for a 1.8L for the 2001 model year but hers is a JDM 1.6L. Anyone know if these parts are the same?

No, the dryer was changed in 2001. It might have changed earlier as well, but it definitely changed in '01.
Dunno about the expansion valve. I'm not an AC guy, but the 1.6 should be 12A - that should affect the valve, no?
