The motor sometimes has a top end knock at start up and will not start. To fix the problem I have to blow the moister out of cyl.# 3.but the knock is still there.I let it set for a while and the knocks gone and it starts right up?? Took the valve cover off and see nothing obvious. The car runs strong with no issuses but when this happens I'm clueless.I did all the obvious plugs, wires, oil(no water oil mix fluids look good)....If any of you have a clue please help me out here. Thanks

    Any compression/leakdown numbers?

Moisture out of cyl. #3 is the clue. Coolant leak causing partial hydo-lock.

Compression is good and not leaking down. Its kinda like a stuck valve, but not sure that can happen on this car.But like I said it runs great when this is not happening.

What is the moisture exactly? Fuel? Oil? Coolant?

    This kind of moisture?

It apparently doesn't have what engines crave.

Common on the fwd variant for the secondary iacv to fail, letting coolant leak into that cylinder, pooling overnight.

Don't know if it applies to the Miata. It's really the only way the EGTs die.
