Looked at a 95 this morning on the way to work (one of the advantages of having a manager who is also a car nut is that coming in later because you had to look at a car is OK) and one thing that bothered me about it is that on one side of the hood, the rear near the hinge was sitting about 1/4" to 1/2" proud of the fender. Other than that the hood sits square so I'm wondering if this is likely to be an adjustment issue or something a little more sinister?

Other than that it seemed to be a pretty neat car, needs the usual stuff you'd expect from a 125k miles Miata (shocks, alignment, shifter boots etc) so it's mostly the hood that's concerning me.

OTOH I think I'm a little spoiled by the S2000s I drove so I don't know if the answer in this case will be Me-Otter or not.

To answer my own question - some poking around on Miata.net suggests that if the hood stays down at the back if you push on it, the hinge wants maintenance. This one pops back up.

Add to that a broken/cracked washer bottle and the fact that the car both pulls to the right and the bumper doesn't fit 100% on the right (it does on the left), I think I'll give that one a miss.

Oh well, another S2000 to look at arranged for Sunday .

I've seen a lot of miatas hit in the front that have popped up rear hinges.
