I'm going over my newly purchased car and it is starting to make a metallic rattle when the car rev's 2500rpm. Above and below that you cannot hear it. I've crawled all over the engine bay but I can't seem to pinpoint where it is coming from (possbily the right side). Any thoughts?

Mine does it at 3200rpm, i expect it's the guts of the converter.

The converter is long gone (race car). I'm hoping it's the heat shield and not something more serious

Yeah, the heat shield on mine rattled. Once I had it off/on it quieted down a lot.

How many would it be, out of utter curiosity?

A quick count puts me at 7, but I could easily be missing a couple.

Check the heat shield on the downpipe, just south of the exhaust manifold.

I've got a rattle on mine around 4000 RPM (so pretty much any time I"m on the freeway). Fortunately the car's loud as crap, so I don't really notice it unless I'm next to a wall or truck for a few seconds. It's not the cat, as I've got a virtually new one. It's not the exhaust heat shilding, because there no longer is any (besides a header blanket in the engine bay). I've tracked it down to the passenger side of the engine bay, and I have a feeling it's coming from the starter. We've pretty much replaced everything else around there that it could be coming from.
