I am almost though a set of Sumitomo HTR 200 tires on my autoX miata. This does 2-3 autocrosses a month and does DD in the summer. I need a tire that competes well, lasts a while, and handles rain well. Essentially a good DD tire that can autoX. I run in STS so....

What tires should i look for?

I spent $210 on my first set and am looking to stay close to that budget.

Thanks a bunch guys and gals

edit: still have the stock 14inch wheels. was running 195/60/r14. can i run wider?

    +1 on the falkens

if you want to run wider, the only other options are Hoosier A6's in 205/55/14 and 225/50/14 (I think you can only fit the 225 on a 6" wide wheel)

-1 on the Falkens. I'm not a fan personally. I would rather run an RA1, as in my experience they last longer and they definitely stick better. But the Azeniseses are certainly available in a 195/60-14.

$53, long life, autoxable...I'm coming up with the HTR200

The Hoosier is not the only other option for wider. The RA1 comes in a 205/55-14, as does the NT-01, V710 and probably a few other competition tires. But they don't meet a single one of the criteria other than fitting on 14" wheels

If you wanted to spend the extra money, there is a lot more tires available for a 15" rim. The problem with wanting a tire with good treadwear is that is won't be as competitive as the Azenis. The Hankook RS2 is available for a 15" wheel and I loved mine in the rain, I felt they had much better wet traction than my current Azenis.

Azeni's are sometimes hard to find, especially in 14". That's why I'm currently running the Hankook RS2's. I've run both and IMO the Azeni's are slightly better and autocross and RS2's slightly better at street but they are close to each other in performance. But it could just be me.

Lightweight chrome always sounds oxymoronic to me, haha.

    Sorry, nothing useful to add.

He said he ran STS ... you can't run A6's in STS.... and the Falkens really aren't that good in the rain... I ran them for several yrs... now use Bridgestone re-o1R's shaved... not so good in the rain... but full tread RE-11's would do the trick.... ~$120 per

having read farther down the thread ... the RA-1 is not a legal tire in STS...

They are pretty good actually. In the rain, i have to be careful, but its not scary =) Performance wise they are great! This being my most performance set of tires may taint the opinion, but im looking to buy another set soon!

You can't get them as 14s.
