This is so cool! I've seen videos and read about this on SpecialStage. I'd love it if something like that was around where I live, or if I had the time to organise something like it.

Best of luck with it and be sure to post videos for everyone who participates!

Looks like fun, but no convertibles? That would mean no Miatas, which is always the answer. (untill it became '58 Pontiac recently) What about with rollbar or hardtop?

  • Feb. 26, 2010 7:41 p.m. Knurled New Reader

The apparent answer is "tan STI".

Hardtop & rollbar = no problem.

Is Exedy offering something with their sponsorship besides general support for their series?

I know - a triple disk carbon/carbon clutch for every Subaru that enters. That should help fill the entrance list

This was a great kick-off to the Race of Champions series. Thanks to everyone for coming out and our sponsors for making it possible.

Team Dynamics Thompson Racing Fabrication Drakes Coffee Disc Brakes Australia Exedy Clutches

I especially want to thank those who came out just to help out without even running the event. We couldn't do this without you.

The final between Billy and Sean was nail biting to say the least but I loved the smile on Xarrax's face all day despite driving one of the slowest cars out there. It was great to see old friends and new faces out there, I just wish we'd had a few more of each. It was also great to see such a wide variation in vehicles and that a two wheel drive Neon can take on an STI.

Thanks for posting the videos and pictures on http://www.xceedspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159516&page=3. If you have any more keep them coming.

Next event is July 25th which is not Mother's Day #2 as far as I can tell. We couldn't get a date in June or we'd be doing one then of course.

Results on the web page in the SCHEDULE section http://www.teamilluminata.com/miroc.htm

    Thanks again.

This was a great event on both weekends this year. If you have a car, some experience and are near the area it is well worth your time and effort to run this event. I have yet to make the run offs and probably never will in my current car, a stock dodge charger (even the tires) but I will be going back for the thrill. This course offers a bit of everything, a high speed section, some twisty sections and a bit of the technical. To date this is the most fun I've had behind the wheel of a car.

The July race was won by a Neon in a hotly contested battle with a Subaru.

This is a unique fun event in a safe yet exciting venue. It's like an autocross but you are racing against another car about half a lap apart so no door to door stuff. Runs take about 60 seconds and you get at least seven. If you get through to the knockout finals runs are two laps. Come on out and have a go. I guarantee you'll have a blast. We need twelve pre-entries to run or we cancel so don't sit on the fence please, commit. You won't regret it.

As you may have heard we cancelled Sunday's Michigan's Race of Champions event due to lack of entries. I'm somewhat at a loss as to why we continue to struggle to attract enough participants to make these events sustainable. After all, as one new competitor put it recently "This is the coolest budget motorsport EVER!!! Why aren't people coming? I'd really like to help you grow this thing, Paul. What can I do to help?" Well, perhaps you can start by discussing with this email group the relative merits and downsides to the series. I believe everyone on this list has attended at least one event. What did you like? What did you dislike?

For my part I think we have a few plus points:

we have a unique event format with the head to head knockout thing. good seat time per dollar spent ratio. very relaxed car classing rules (none) safe yet challenging race conditions relaxed schedule that doesn't require competitors to be present all day series prize list (wheels, battery) individual event prize list any others?

    Possible problems:

you have to buy or rent a next collar the so called "jump". (It's not) relaxed organization too many other events on the calendar course is the same every event not SCCA sanctioned confusion over what the event is about no tire restrictions no classes the economy any others?

I'd love to hear either way.

For the previous two years we have run these as 25% dirt, 75% paved under the name SuperRally-X with around 12-16 entrants per event . We wanted around 20-25 entrants and it seemed that the issue keeping people away was with the dirt portion so for 2010 we did away with that and changed the name to Michigan's Race of Champions. Since then we have attracted even less entries but we can't figure out why. I'm considering going back to the SuperRally-X format for 2011 as at least we might get enough entries to break even, it will be even more unique and, we might be able to piggy-back on Rally America's Euro RallyCross program which, in effect, we will be an entry level version of.

I'm open to suggestions chaps, what do you have?

As for the next event it is now on SATURDAY October 23rd as I will be the Lake Superior Performance Rally on the original date. Registration is already open at http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=11580&psmode=3
