275-375 rwhp is my guess assuming a good tune.

I don't know how low you will set boost, I'm not sure if you are going for longevity or omfgholycraphorsepower.

275 if you are being conservative with boost 375 if you aren't :D

Me too. Every Monday after work I check for new posts. One of very few blogs I read on a regular basis.

Wow. I'm really surprised that the 91 Octane did that. I'd be very concerned that the knock sensor going crazy was not a false reading, but reality.

Wow. And people say that Honda engines don't make torque! Look at that plateau!

I don't see the Vtec crossover point. Am I missing something or is it really that smooth?

Tuned properly, the VTEC switchover is smooth. Honda intentionally switches it about 500 RPM late so that you can feel it "kick in". But that's a marketing solution, not an engineering one.

Uploading the video now... give me a few minutes to update the Video links.

About the VTEC crossover, yes it's working. In fact, during tuning it was audibly noticable, but as he dialed in the tune he found the exact rpm where it's seamless.

Congratulations on your awesome efforts: design, engineering, and construction. What's the official weight?

I must buy the book Sorry if I missed this, but when will it be available?

  • Sept. 25, 2010 12:56 p.m. kb58 Reader

Won't know the final weight until the paneling is done, but about 1500 lbs.

The book will be available soon after the car's painted, assembled, and has done at least one trackday event.

They tried running it on 109 race gas to find out exactly that, and it did the very same thing. That appears to indicate it's a bad sensor, bad wiring, or an EMI issue.

For those who don't want to bother going to the blog, peak power was 409 whp, torque is ~ 290 nearly flat from 3000 - 7000 rpm. Boost rises slowly from 6 psi @ 3000, to 9 psi @ 8000.

I need to finish reading the blog so I can see what tire sizes you plan to try to put that much power to the ground with.

Great job on the build, excellent work as usual.

    In reply to z31maniac:

They're Toyo R1s, 275/40-17, about as large as will fit under the 12" fenders - had to go with that size to validate that they would really fit, at least that's the story I'm sticking with.

So I guess that means you won't be shifting much then. That is a WIIIDE torque curve.

    But very cool.

The final drive and 1st-4th are low numerically; first is good to 54, and second's good to 85 mph. Granted, it'll still suck at autocross...
