Some friends are considering buying a new Mini Cooper S, and saw some reports on-line that made them nervous. I thought I would post here (where people actually know something about cars) to see what your experiences have been. They are wondering about maintenance and repair costs for the MCS. Would appreciate any info you may have. Bill

Move along. Do not know why my search did not find it, but just saw a posting a from less than a day ago with a similar question. DOH.

Most of the older threads concentrate on the earlier ('02-'06) R50/53 models. To a certain extent, the jury is still out on the current ('07 +) R56 model variations. So far, they seem to be a bit better.

62k on our 2006 S. Pretty much stock. Haven't had to spend much out of pocket other than oil changes, brakes, tires and alignment.

maintenance is covered for 36k by the dealership. oil, brakes, wipers. But not tires. beyond the free maintenance period, the MINI is like any other car: struts, brakes, oil, tranny flush, etc.

Aren't Minis known for going through lots of windshields? Or was that just the Mk1s?
