The tires on her Sonata are low tread at the worst time of year.

She had Goodyear Triple Tracks on her last car an 03 Jetta, and she really liked them (hated the car).

Suggest some All-Season tires that can handle the snow?

Kumho Ecsta Platinum LXl Love them on my 02 Elantra, lowered. . . They handled 4" of snow like nothing, and did well on the ice.

I'm not sure if they come in a size that the Sonata wears but my family has had Hankook MIleage Plus 845s on a few cars including a couple of mine and they are solid in snow and wear like iron. They are a Pep Boys exclusive. The Kumho Solus KR-21's are a good all season tire for the coin also.

I will never buy all seasons again...they suck at everything.

Allseasons are great if you don't live in the extremes (like extreme north with 4billion feet of snow or south with no snow ever). I've used a/s tires my whole life. Only "speacilty" tires I have are for auto-x

I've had really good luck with Goodyear Viva's on the '04 Intrepid winter beater. They are cheap at Wally World and they easily get the car through an upstate NY winter. Nothing special in the dry, but neither is the car.

I use Goodyear Integritys. Maybe they are just for minivans though.

I have BF Goodrich Radial T/A's on my porsche. Not bad. Got a set for $100 that still had the stickers on them from my local junk yard. I dont know what they really cost but they have been ok in the snow, great in the rain. The side walls are a bit soft. Not really a performance tire (although marketed as such. A good daily driver. I burnt through the rears in about a year but that was me getting on them a bit. With a little restraint I bet I could get two years (30K) out of them.

BF goodrich are good inexpensive tires, but I never drive in snow or anything exciting like that. I've had them on the benz for 20K miles which is real good for my car, and also have them on the pickup. They were like 50$ apiece.

The Kuhmo Ecsta DX Aroma seems like a fascinating choice for a mom. And I quote "replaces a tire's normal rubber smell with the subtle scent of fresh lavender". What better mom tire could there be?

Seriously, all season tires really make some compromises, especially for winter traction. That said, there are a few out there that seem to be worth consideration.

The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 gets good reviews. Similarly the General Altimax. No direct experience with either of them. Just interesting reviews and feedback on their overall well-roundedness. Neither are an expensive tire.

Another vote for the ASX. See the other thread comparing the ASX w/ the Falken Ziex.

don't you mean the Goodyear Triple Treads? I'm not familiar with the Triple Tracks...

from personal experience, I vote those Sure you could save some cash with less expensive tires but you'll give up longevity and traction.

^ But the Falkens (on just about every Hyundai I knowof that's tried them) do NOT last longer than about 20-25k miles.
