My buddy has a 2000 V-6 Mustang as his DD. He's been hearing rattling sound from around the engine bay and the shop told him that he needed a new Y Pipe near the catalytic converter. I couldn't find the part on Rockauto.com, is this the header? They quoted him around $600 for parts which sounded pretty steep. What do you guys think?

Depends what else he needs. Take it elsewhere and get a 2nd opinion, line up the two estimates, etc.

Those cars have a nasty habit of cracking manifolds too.............

Yeah my sister's did that, wound up having a cheapo shop welding up the crack, its holding so far.

Thanks guys. It sounds like his manifolds might have cracked too since he's been hearing rattling sound from around the engine when it's under load. Should a cracked manifold trigger a CEL? In this case his CEL is fine.

It SHOULD but the leakage may not be enough to reduce exhaust temperatures to an unreadable point yet
