How the berkeley do you get the rear trans mount detached on this damn thing?

It's a V6 model. I'm pulling the motor out of the top because it's too rusty to even want to attempt to bring it out the bottom for fear that i won't be able to put it back together enough to tow to the scrap yard.

This is seriously pissing me off.

The through bolt won't come out even if i could get the nut off of it because it'll hit the frame of the car before it comes out, and i can't get anything down there to cut the frame apart with.

So apparently what looked like welded nuts actually aren't, and were just really rusty? FAIL.

I just hope i don't have to take off item #14, that's going to be a nightmare.

    Smart person said:

Remove the two nuts that secure the mount to the transmission mount member that runs from the front to the subframe.

Who thinks this was fun to get out? Worth noting that this was the BETTER of the two, and actually after i had already hammered a socket over it.

Oh honestly, that was just icing on the cake.

To get to those two nuts, you have to remove a crossbrace that ties the front of the car together. It's attached by 4 bolts. I got 3 of them off. The 4th rounded off. Tried for quite awhile to get it off, then ended up taking a cutoff wheel to the brace. Then still had to use a prybar to separate the cut off part of the brace from the car just to even SEE the two nuts for the motor mount.

I worked on the car for just over 6 hours today. It took just over 6 hours to pull a motor that was ONLY attached to ANYTHING by the front and rear motor mount.

    berkeley that car.

Oh un-bolting the rear motor mount is cake. If your car isn't a rusty pile of E36 M3.
