OK, so I'm always browsing as all of us are, and I run into this, which actually reminds me of the worst performance engine thread quite a bit. I hope this link stays open for a while because I don't know how to save and post the whole page with pics. Nonetheless, this is totally the kind of next project (other than the next project that must be a tow-worthy truck with 4WD and a V8) that I would go for.

I would just tune it up, do some work on the suspension, give it some new tires and maybe wheels. Sanding and primer over time and then a trip to MAACO for the el presidente paint job in an appropriate color, like some kind of burnt sienna. Just totally cool. (Its a 76 Vega with a 262 and a 350 turbo trans with an asking prioce of $1,000 in case its gone, but I think this will stick around for a few days).

    DOITDOITDOITDOITDOIT!

Forget MAACO - think rollered Rustoleum. And it's amazing how much a 262 looks like a 350. Just saying ...

Too bad it's not a fastback, but there's a lot of potential there for the price.

I had forgotten that Vegas came as notchback sedans. Or maybe I just repressed that memory.

The 262 is really really bad, since you can get almost any other small block for almost nothing, get a camaro 305, or a 307 or 350 truck engine to put in, there is no reason not to.

Man, you ain't kidding. I'm not sure I can think of a better example of how a good-looking car can become hideous just by changing the roofline. Except maybe the 68-72 Nova....2-doors are hawt, 4-doors are awful.

Shame it's not an earlier car with the more classic grill, but it's a nice starting point, if it's not rusty.

Haha I had the 262 in my first car, a '75 Nova. That thing was pathetic. It was optimistically factory rated at 110 hp.
