Some late-night Christmas eve work, while I should have been wrapping presents. Always wanted to install one of these, and since Subaru doesn't offer one as a factory option centerline (it replaces the left reverse light in euro markets, but I want both my reverse lights for the stupid parking lots where nobody is paying attention)...

Light is from a UK-market Mitsu Evo VIII (stock for them, mounted to right of the license plate). Took forever to get here but it was pretty cheap and the curvature of the faceplate is a close match the my rear lower bumper.

It's wired, but the LED bulb I'll be using is still not here, so no lit shots yet. Wired with an old Hella floodlight switch from my Jeep - don't want it linked to the front fogs since I like them on when it's clear too (for looks :) )....and I get terribly annoyed by people with their bright-ass rear fogs on during clear nights!

(I go to the mountains alot and do frequently drive in foggy/heavy snow conditions where I want people behind me to see me)

Very nice!!!! You know you have crossed the line between hobby to hard core when you start cutting up panels to install things. Separates the men from the boys.

    Merry Christmas!!!

You put MITSU parts on a Subie? Isnt that a tar and featherable offense?

Looks OEM. Damn nice job, dude.

Yeah, it's scary cutting holes in a car I still owe like $15k on

I must have measured 20 times with my engineering caliper to make sure it was centered, lol...super paranoid about messing up and needing to buy a new bumper!

lol, it's more fun that way! Can't just do what everyone else is doing, right?

    very well done, MITSUBIE..lol

    Hm, looks crooked..

I kid. Very nice job, looks totally OEM.

Saab sacrificed one reverse light on the CS-body 9000's for a rear fog. If I had a dollar for every time someone told me I have a reverse light out....

Very nicely done. Wrapping presents? meh. its only going to get ripped off the next day. This impresses people online which is much more important. LOL.

I love reverse fogs.. still trying to figure out what I am going to do about my classic 900 in that regard.

when I lived in Europe, the old Saabs usually just had them mounted on a bracket right below the lip of the rear bumper (as did most older cars).

Hella sells rear fogs with such a bracket, fyi.

The Saab EPC shows p/n 4060695 as a rear hatch light "with fog light" (but doesn't specify which market it's for.) My guess is that the only difference between this and the US part is a socket for a double-filament bulb for one of the lights, like the socket used in the tail/brake light; when you turn on the fogs, it lights one of the filaments. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if the wiring is already in the car; perhaps all you'd need to do is epoxy in the right bulb socket.

You could also just wire one of the existing lights to come on when you turn on your fogs, too.

Sorry for the OT -- nice work on the Subie light :-)

Pardon my ignorance...rear fogs are so you don't get hit in the fog? Or do they serve another purpose?

you got it.. in inclimate weather, you turn them on so people can see you from a further distance. Fog, rain, snow... the brighter rear light makes you easier to see.

They are also usually divorced from the Brake Lights so people are not supposed to get them confused.. unfortunately, most people in the US have never encountered Rear Fogs.. so no telling what they would think of them

I like the simple, effective presentation. It really does look OEM; makes you wonder why Subaru doesn't do it that way anyhow. Surely Fuji Heavy Industies has the money and talent to figure this out. But then again maybe not....

    In reply to Mikey52_1:

subaru does...here's the Euro-spec STi sedan for this year. Several locals are ordering the light since the US bumper for '11+ is the same, but just has a black mesh there instead.

Sadly, mine didn't have that option so I had to improv!

btw, since my original pics apparently make it look off by 1cm or so, lol, according to the NASIOC croo...took a "proof" shot

FWIW, the second generation Olds Auroras had a pair of rear fogs that seem to work just great. (Of course, Toronto drivers put their fogs on when they can, not when they ought to.) Might be a good thing to watch for in ju– I mean, recycling yards.

in case anyone cares, finally got a bulb in (32-LED 1156 from autolumination) and finished wiring everything up. Here's a crappy night shot:
