At some point during today's auto-x I bought/was given a V8 monza providing I buy the same guy's old seat and junk 350
Does anybody know anything about these? How do carbs work? Is it wrong to get a perfectly fine racecar free? Is there a good way to determine the value for challenge purposes?
I would LOVE a V8 Monza! It may have the much-maligned Vega roots, but it's light, reasonably good looking, and takes some real good hardware.
Oh, and it looks mean with box flares!
Carbs are semicontrolled vacuum and gas leaks. No biggie.
There's no such thing as a free race car. 
Okay I guess I have to factor in the fuel cell that might be needed to replace the 2 gallon gas can this car used as a tank all its competition life.
Its a small block so an LS series engine should fit right?

What type of carb is on it? Due to being completely broke in my youth I actually learned how to make the Quadrajets work very well. I even came to like bigger two barrel carbs over the monster 4 barrel ones. (Faster throttle response and less parts to get buggered up.)
If you are feeling to guilty about the new car I will gladly take it off your hands 
Nice score!! Enjoy it!!. Many will never get to drive a car like that and it really is a small bit of automotive history.
Buy the Haynes Techbook manual covering whatever brand carb you have. They have a good explanation of theory along with repair instructions. Then find an older guy that dirt track races or an old drag racer and become friends. Either will teach you more than a manual ever could.

By chance can anybody tell me where to get a hitch for a 71 Dodge motorhome?

Funny enough, my first crack at carb tinkerin' was also on a nearly-free Monza V8. Instead of the "controlled gas leak" analogy, the great Sean Korb told me to think of a carb as more of an analog computer. That helped me to deal w/ my FUD.
The thing was great fun, could smoke one tire forever, handled like poo, was loud and smelly and scared old ppl. I did get a shot of it into Hot Rod mag, tho. Thanks to their coverage of the Challenge.
Have fun w/ it. Wish i still had mine.
Looks like it even came with a hammer to help fix/adjust it!

The best hitch for it would be on the back of a wrecker Any RV or Trailer shop should be able to set you up with a hitch.
Would you be against a long distance bromance?
26 cubic inches seems a bit small to me.
What type of carb do you have? Some spin straw into gold, some make cars run and some make reindeer fly.

According to the air cleaner lid, you've only got 26 cubic inches. Bummer.
Doug Roe's "Rochester Carburetors" is a good resource. They are amazingly engineered pieces of casting and machining and if set up properly in the right application they work very well.
I tried to rebuild a 4bl one off a SBC myself and failed. But I learned a hell of allot before sending it off to these guys who sent me back a perfectly functioning carb.
Couldn't you switch to triple Webers or something like that if the carburetor is such a pain?

You got John Rudy's(?) old CP Monza! Ran in PA AX series for years.

Cage it and hillclimb it!
It is a 262ci small block - only made a couple of years - VERY low compression. Total boat anchor! It has about 140 horses stock - on a good cold day!
Don't bother with an LS motor - just get a junkyard 350 - or even a 283 for CP weight breaks - and GO! Get a Spool in the rear also - the peg leg it has is a bit lame. You may want to change the rear to a decent Ford 9 inch if you are trying to get any real power to it. Ranger 8.8 might fit (read - be narrow enough) and be a bit more stout than the 10 bolt it has.

That or turbocharge that low compression motor for some fun.

I got it from John he still runs in other John's 330i. You're right you havent been around in years this cars last apperance was 2005 in EM (John got a little happy with the stripping the car is about 700lb too light for CP) John gave us a 350 with it we might have a go at that as opposed to the LS

York PA. Ive been hanging around ASCC events for about 3 years now and running since I got my license
needs more box flare.
Had a buddy that had one of those when I was in high school. Man that car was a blast. I have been looking for a unmolested one for years to no avail. Luck Dog! Why is it everyone else gets all the cool free deals.
Insane pick up. Very jealous. The wheels are insanely pimp to me.
